Porsche Cayman S - Full Detail

I have used this product before with great results on our BMWs.

This time I tried it on my 2001 Z06. The car has 12,800 miles.

Please go to the http://www.leatherique.com/ site for more info.

Park the car outside on a warm sunny day for best results. It was 70F/sunny here in Altanta on sunday.

From the site:

"Park the car in the sun with the windows rolled up to create a "steam room" for as long as practical, several hours or a day."

This product is different from most other leather cleaner/ conditioners in that you put the Rejuvenator Oil on first. You apply it very heavy, they claim 4 oz per seat I used maybe 2-3 oz per seat. I used a spray bottle and rubbed it in with my hands or you can use a sponge. After you get it put on all the seats close the doors and let the car sit for most of the day. I applied it at noon and let the car sit till 5pm.

Then apply the Prestine Clean by hand or with a soft towel. I did it by hand.

From the site:

"Apply Prestine Clean by hand or with a soft Terry Cloth towel and massage out the dirt. For tough dirt or vinyl convertible tops, brush the cleaner into the grain of the leather or vinyl with a soft bath brush or toothbrush. Let stand for a few minutes, usually by the time you are done with the next piece, and rinse the surface with a soft, damp Terry Towel. Rinse Towel or soft cloth in warm, clean water. Then, after all the dirt has been removed, gently buff to a luxurious finish with a clean, dry, Terry Towel or soft cloth."

I should of took both pics inside, I think you can see a difference. The black leather looks darker than it was and richer in color. The lines in the leather has softened up quite a bit. The seats feel softer.

lookin good, those GM seats really need to be treated a lot. They crack very easily in my experience.

That's pretty impressive. I've yet to use a leather conditioner that actually made my seats look and feel different. They've all just seemed to get soaked up and the seats look the same as they did before the treatment. Can't wait to try this stuff out.

Thanks guys for all your comments :up

Al, the GM leather quality is poor at best.
I figure I better do this treatment at least twice a year.

The leather seats in our BMWs look very good for the miles 147k on our 93 740il.

Here are some pics of it, scroll down for the interior pics:

They were taken care of good by the prior owners. I have only used leatherique on them 1 time in the past 3.5 years that we have owned the car. The rear seat look almost new still. We are selling it and hopefully this week it will be gone. The wife is sad to see it go. she will be driving the 94 540. It has been lowered a bit so she says it too rough on bumps.

You have convinced me. I'm getting some of that. My leather is in rough shape in one place on my drivers seat. I need some of that stuff. Is that something that you have to order or do you think it would be availible localy in a leather repair shop or something?

I had very good results with Leatherique also. I think the wrinkles are less pronounced since using it. The only negative was that for a few days after using it, the seats were slightly tacky. Nothing that would stick to you but my clothes didn't slide on the leather like is does now. It only lasted a few days. Maybe I didn't use enough Pristine clean after the oil.....:nixweiss

Otherwise its the best leather conditioner I have found to date.

It worked great on my leather recliner but took a whole bottle of the oil! And it does get expensive.

Look for the car groups that sell it sometimes they have good prices.

When you say a whole bottle...is that a pint, quart, gallon??? I bought a quart of each and I think that it would do at least 2 of my recliners after having done the bucket seats in the car...

I recommended that stuff awhile back for your cracking Acura seats - if you remember, I had the same problem on my wife's Honda Accord. This stuff really did the trick. You might want to get some crack filler as well - it'll run you another $20 (and remember to tell them what kind of car and color leather it is) - but when you're done, you'll be looking at a new car (or interior, at least).

Mine seem to be a bit tacky as well. Just did it yesterday so I'll see in a few days. Nothing serious. I did try and wipe them down again today with a towel rinsed in warm water. Still a bit tacky.

I remember. Seeing is believing though. :up I still remember the advice. I've done some looking into it and I really need to get some. Its nice to see before and after pics like that. The side of that seat looks just like the part of my seat that is bad. I just cringe at spending that much money when I'll only need it this one time. I rarely have passengers in my car so I don't think the rest of the leather will have problems for a long time. I've been looking for someone locally that can hook me up. :)

Started with the wheels as usual. Osren Degreaser FX (diluted 2:1), Osren Tar Remover and CarPro IronX was used. First time with the IronX, it works and does changes colour when in contact with brake dust, very useful for getting those hard to reach areas or unreachable areas. However, I didn?t find it to be a more effective cleaner compared with Meguiar?s Wheel Brightener, which is acidic. IronX isn?t exactly cheap, but for a non-acidic cleaner, this is probably as good as it gets, if you have non-clearcoated wheels, this would be a good solution to get them clean. Old wheel weight residue removed with Osren Tar Remover.

Bodywork is washed with with Osren Nano Wash, using Lake Country Big Blue sponge, cut into two. They should come pre-cut already, it?s so much easier to hold and use, also gets into the cracks where the actual sized Big Blue could not. Paint is smoothened with Osren Magic Clay Cloth, followed by Osren Tar Remover on the lower panels. Lastly, IronX is used, it dissolved iron particles in areas where the Clay Cloth couldn?t reach, such as the emblems and door handle cracks.

Paintwork had the usual car wash swirls and nothing major.

Correction process was:

  1. Compound with Meguiar?s #105 Ultra Cut Compound on a Lake Country Purple Foamed Wool/4-Ply Twisted wool via rotary polisher at ~1500rpms.
  2. Polished with Meguiar?s #205 Ultra Finishing Polish on a Lake Country White Kompressor Pad via rotary polisher at ~1500 rpms.
  3. Finished with G|Techniq P1 Nanoscopic Polish on a Lake Country Black finishing pad via dual-action polisher at speed 5-6.

That was a great job you did on that Porsche. It looks soaking wet. You really made that color POP.
Excellent write up as well.

Great work on the Porsche, One question is the use of the blog and the watermark. Remember if you want to post please no business sites posted here to lead others there.
