Poorboy's Wheel Sealant questions...

JaCkaL829

it was my first time...
I have some questions about Poorboy's Wheel Sealant that i'm hoping some who have used it can answer. I plan on going the whole 9 yards on my car soon, and one of the things I plan on doing is removing my wheels to paint my calipers and clean up my rusty rotors, but to also fully detail my rims. The back of my rims seem pretty dirty, any suggestions on a possible cleaner? I was thinking maybe a light polish, such as FP2 or PwC by hand with a terry cloth? After I get them really clean I plan on doing 2-3 coats of wheel sealant. Do I have to wait 24 hrs between each coat like you do when layering paint sealants? Also is there a wait time before I buff of the residue or can I WOWO?

Thanks In Advance :2thumbs:

Here's my view:

1. Use A2Z to clean the wheels after soaping. Use an OXO brush to agitate the solution and get down into the lug nuts.

2. I would suggest a chemical cleaner like AIO...I'm a bit nervous about recommending anything abrasive on wheels since some may be delicate.

3. Apply 2 layers of PB Wheel Sealant for a brighter shine. I would wait 24 hours but I am not sure it is required.

4. I usually buff off after 20-30 minutes.

I would fully degrease the rims, inside and out, then use a Bug and Tar Remover to clean up any remainaing deposits.

Following, use some clay to remove bonded contaminants, then follow with PB Pro Polish or Klasse AIO to remove any staining. If the wheels are in nice shape sans heavy swirling/scratching, you can then go to a sealant. If they are terrible, I would do something like IP or SSR2 by hand, then the sealant. I waited about 12 hours before adding another coat.

I believe TOGWT noted that optimal bonding conditions are low humidity, ambient temperature situations. IE: Leave them in your house overnight and recoat in the AM.

I used PBWS (wheel sealant) the other day on my own car. Had the rims refurbished some months ago, so they are still free of any kerbing/damage.

Wash, (in this case PB Spray & Wipe, light clay, AIO and PBWS x2.

Sorry, but on a seperate note, what should the consistency of PBWS be like......? Mine is like SSR1 consistency, thick and gooey and find the oils leak out from the jar thread when closed. I thought it was the recent hot weather we had in the UK (88 degs.) but it appears that air temperature has little effect on consistency.

Nick-- I find the PBWS to be the consistancy kind of like slightly runny jello or pudding. I also noticed in my original shipment that something clear/oily from the product seemed to leak out around the threads of the screw cap.

Ahhh, seems like the norm then.......I was expecting it to be a little like Natty's, but obviously not as hard.

I got hold of some of those sponge applicators that fit over your 3 fingers, works really well, leave on for 30 mins and buff off. Wheels are still feeling slick 2-weeks later and hopefully clean up easy next wash time.
