Pitted Chrome Wheels

Hey Guys,

This is my first thread here, and this question may have been answered before, but I did search and found nothing.

Anywho...I just got my summer wheels put back on my car ('04 TSX) and they have developed pitting on the inner lip. The face of the wheels still looks pristine, but the inner lip is looking a bit rough. I have heard some people say to use steel wool, but don't want to start doing that without some more people chiming in.

What do you guys think I should use?

p.s. pics of the car here: My Carbon Gray TSX

Yes, 0000 Steel wool works great. Make sure you dont apply too much pressure as you can scratch the chrome with enough elbow grease. If you do go this route, use some type of lube. Any type of quick detailer works.

Basically you just want to cut the top of the pitting off (assuming it hasnt started peeling). You can also apply chrome polish with the steel wool - it works great.

Yesterday, I removed a ton of tar off a friend's 20" chrome giovannas with some #0000 steel wheel. I used ardex's OK cleaner which is an acid free wheel cleaner that won't harm chrome rims. A few piece of steel wool, with a few sprays of the wheel cleaner, and some light scrubbing made the wheels come up like brand new. I followed up with mother's metal polish just in case the steel wool left any dull spots.

His wheels looked brand new. This is definitly the way to clean tarnished chrome.

#0000 is the way to go for chrome. Use a lube and/or metal polish as necessary and finish up with a polish (sans steel wool) and sealant.

Thanks for the help guys, sorry I didn't post back sooner, since this is my first thread it took about 48 hours before it went up.

I emailed the wheel manufacturer and turns out it may be a bigger issue but they are helping me out even though I'm a bit out of warranty.
