Paying for logo design?

I'm getting ready to start working on a website and ordering some business cards. I have a logo that I like but it could look more professional. How would I go about finding someone to design my logo for me and what kind of costs can I expect? I'm going to try to revamp it myself some but I feel like it's missing a professional touch I guess so if you have any suggestions on ways to spruce it up myself let me know!

Anyways, here's a sample of the logo design. It took me and my gf a while to come up with the name and the design, lots of brainstorming lol.

thanks guys!

I've thought about infinitygloss but I like infiniGloss much better for some reason. Much more unique and has a much more professional sound to me.

I like the infinigloss name a lot, and the infinity sign as the g, but it does need more work.

I first read it as "Infinite Gloss". (Inifin "8" "G"loss). I think the logo should portray the industry since the name doesn't.

Could always run a contest. $100 for the winning design. Even if you don't use the exact design, you could get a lot of good ideas.

That's true. I thought about contacting a local community college that has a graphic design program but don't want to come off as wanting pro quality work for cheap... Even though that's essentially what I'm doing lol. I could always add "detailing" to the logo. Believe it or not it did take quite a while just to come up with this crude design lol. I'm going to stry working on it some more to see what I can come up with on my own before plunging into having a graphic designer design the entire thing.

And I see what you did tere Dan... Good idea lol

Tony does excellent work and is one of us (detail fanatic) Contact him and see what he would charge you

You wanna make sure when you shrink/enlarge the image it stays crystal clear. A crappy looking logo could be a deal killer for a potential client IMO :hat:

For once, I have to agree with Flash. Give Tony a shout, he'll take good care of you.

I was actually just wondering how I would design my logo in photoshop to look good shrunken or enlarged. Not sure what or may to save in.

What you want is a vector graphic file (e.g. Adobe Illustrator) instead of a Photoshop-type format.

Just did some research and discovered that. I thin it's getting an almost complete resesign so if I do go to a pro I at least have a rough draft.

Maybe I should start another thread for this, but I really don't like creating multiple threads that are so closely related. Makes me feel like I'm wasting people's time for some reason lol.

But here are a few that I worked up in inkscape yesterday. What it your guys personal opinions on them? The logos themselves, I like the name infinigloss so I'm sticking with that.

I tried to keep them simple without too much going on.

I like this one. Don't care for the green so much, but it works with any color. Also test it in just one solid color for printing purposes as there will be times that gradient shading won't work. The only thing missing is something to let a potential customer know what type of business it is.

I don't think a company logo should have to spell things out for people. On business cards there should be a description of what the company is. For example: a business card might have my logo on it, but it will also say something like "full service automotive detailing." Shirts, signs and everything would be the same way, all with a small description or slogan and a phone number and/or website. I'm not positive it's necessary to have that be a part of the logo or company name, that's what slogans and building a strong brand name are for. If you think about most successful companies they don't have a description of what they do in their name. Granted I'm not trying to be a Fortune 500 company or anything like that, but my targeted audience is also much smaller than theirs.

I'm not trying to be argumentative just to be a stubborn ***** lol. Just getting my point of view out. If you disagree feel free to say so, I have no qualms over constructive debate or critiquing!

And the logo directly under that one is the same logo just in solid black form. I think I like them both to be honest. I'm trying to keep it simple and not cluttered.

It is the contrast of the light letters against the black background that makes it pop.

Have you ever looked at a bulletin board with a bunch of business cards and flyers on it? Do you read every flyer? In reality people will glance at the board for only a moment and each item will get a fraction of a second of attention while a few will stand out and get slightly more. Simply seeing a name will not likely draw their attention unless it is something they can associate it with and they will not remember it 10 seconds later. Not that it is absolutely necessary. I just feel it will increase recognition for your business.
