painting wheels?

I have an extra set of wheels for my 04 Mach 1. I was thinking about painting the centers black and leaving the lips factory polished.

What kind of prep would be involved here, and what should I use? What kind of paint should I get to have the best results? Clear?

Thanks in advance.

sand with about 300-400 grit sandpaper, use duplicolor wheel paint. i used their black wheel paint but it came out too flat for me, so i later repainted using duplicolors engine enamel gloss black. wheels have been done for about a year now,and still look like they did when i first painted. its all in the prep

i would think (if your wheels s just poliched aluminum, not chromed. that you could just tape, scuff it up (only the are you want to paint) with an automotive red scuffing pad. then use a prep spray/wipe. let it dry then paint it with a wheel coating. ive always had good luck with duplicolor, and actually use one of their wheel coatings on some of my trim. heres the one above my liscence plate.
