Optimum Opti-Seal (Again)

CharlesW

The Rainmaker
My Opti-Seal arrived Tuesday and I was able to put one application on the Montana today.
I used a Viking Handi-Grip applicator.
A short spray to "prime" the applicator and it went on quite easily. I applied the product to the applicator, then wiped it on the paint.
It took very little product and I probably used more this time than I will the next time. The Montana is white and it wasn't real easy to see where I had been.
It probably took 10 minutes to do the van and I didn't hurry at all. About the same as DG Aqua Wax.
After the initial application, I saw little or no difference from the DG105/AW that had been on the vehicle for about 3 weeks.
After a few hours, I think it might have a little more pop. (If white has pop.:))
It seems to dry pretty quickly and the concern someone had about dust or pollen getting in it before it dried would seem to be no problem.
As I said, I used it on a white vehicle with virtually no rock chips so I don't really know if the stuff will be clear in the chips.
I hope to polish the GP tomorrow and use the OS on it. It also has very few rock chips, but it is red and I should be able to tell if the OS is invisible after it dries.
My guess is that it will be.

Thanks for the review Charles. I'm going to order a bottle whenever I put another order together.
I wonder if someone with rock chipping problems would use Opti-Seal on just the hood and then use a normal LSP on the rest of the vehicle? That way the whole vehicle would be protected and no wax/sealant would get built up in the rock chips...

I would think you could do that, but I guess I don't see the advantage.
The Opti-Seal is expected to give several months of protection which is about as good as what you can expect from any LSP.
In the case of the Montana, the OS went over DG105/DGAW so I should have the best of both worlds. :)
The GP will get the OS over Optimum Poli-Seal since I'm using the Poli-Seal for my polishing step.
Here again, I'm putting the OS over a product that is thought to provide pretty good protection on its own.
Considering I only leave things alone for 4 to 6 weeks, I don't think the durability is something I will ever be able to assess.
I do plan to use the Poli-Seal/Opti-Seal combination on my boat in a few weeks, but it most likely won't go very long without another application, either.

Optiseal has no cleaners or abrasives hence it will not whiten up in paint chips, etc.

Hope it works well for you Charles :)

Today I polished the GP with Poli-Seal and used the Opti-Seal for my LSP.
First off, I used about 1.5 oz. of the Poli-Seal this time, including doing the tank, fenders and side panels of my 1985 Night Hawk 650. Obviously, my first use of so much product was an operator problem.

The Opti-Seal went on quite easily again and on both the red GP and the Maroon NH, the difference was very noticeable. It does not leave any visible residue in rock chips.
While the OS at first seems a little pricey, it takes such a small amount that the cost per vehicle is quite economical.
Not that it would make any difference since it's for the car. :)

Charles is it a dust magnet?
It was just applied to the Montana Wednesday and to the GP Thursday so I don't have much experience with what happens over a period of time.
Right now, I would have to say it is not a dust magnet, but until both vehicles have had more exposure to the elements, I won't know for sure.

Were you just curious or has the OS developed a reputation for attracting dust already?

The streak free appication still escapes me. I don't have much, but I still had some. I tried less product, I tried more product. The streaks or smears still seem to show up at times.

Charles is it a dust magnet?
Given a few more days, I would have to say it hasn't been a "dust magnet" for me, but it does seem to attract slightly more dust than Dura Gloss 105 or Aqua Wax or Collinite IW. That's a tough call since I may have been in more dusty situations. It isn't something that cocerns me just yet.

Actually, since I'm fighting the streaking/smearing I think I can apply Aqua Wax every bit as quick.

Right now the OS is somewhat of a disappontment overall. My wax removing MF towels aren't going to be retired because of the wipe on, walk away OS just yet.
The cost shouldn't be any drawback to anyone considering the OS because a little sure does go a long way.
