OMG....Worst Edmunds review I have ever read...Jaguar X-Type

I sent my father that article about the Jaguar. He called me a few weeks back and was contemplating buying one because of the all-wheel drive feature. Maybe now he will see the light and stay away from this re-labelled Ford Taurus.;)

I am obviously a Jag lover. And I don't totally agree with the review from Edmunds. This guy obviously approached the road test with an attitude.

But having said that, ever since Ford took over we knew this day was coming. At first the influx of Ford cash at Coventry was a Godsend. And with that cash they went a long way in improving many things at Jaguar. The existing Jaguar management knew how top spend the money. But as the transition went along and Ford "company men" took over key positions the melting process began. The S-Type is half-Jag half Ford. The Jag is still a credible jump up from Fords Lincoln platform version. But the X-Type is all Ford and it shows. It lost it's smoothness, it's ride and it's interior appeal. The only place that the original Jag designers had much say was in the exterior. And that was restricted to a scaled down version of the last real Jag, the XJ6/8.

Is the X-Type a bad car? No way. But is it a Jag? No. Times are changing..and not for the better. It's sad to see such an influencial style and technical icon like Jaguar fade away under the Ford umbrella.:(

My college car was a TR6. Never really a great car technically but was it fun to drive and unique visually. This car had the British personality that can not be Americanized. They tried with the TR7 and see where they (British Leyland) are now. I hope the people at Jaquar recognize the bad Ford influences and go back to producing beautiful automotive art.

Even the latter review was very harsh on the X-Type. One of my best friends bought one of these puppies a few months back. He had to take the car back within a week because of some sustained squeaky noise that was coming behind the dash. Two days later and the problem was "fixed." Next the stereo was giving him some problems as the volume know wasn't working consistently. It's been a few months and he's pretty much stopped talking about that particular lemon. Laters

Dunno too much about Jaguar - but I don't like Edmunds reviews *at all*.

They have two flavors - completely bash, or OH MY GOD.

Good Point JohnN.

You hardly ever see reviews that are middle of the road on Edmunds. Heck anywhere for that matter. EXCEPT maybe here!!!!!

I was shocked when i frist read the review, sounds like my old ford but it wasn't 13 years old. The Car they had wasn't a finished product, that explains most of the problems I guess

Editor's Note: The following road test was written with the understanding that Edmunds.com editors were driving a full production vehicle. It wasn't until after the story posted that we were informed by Jaguar that this test vehicle was actually a 13-month-old pre-production unit. We're not sure why a pre-production unit was delivered to us for testing purposes when production vehicles had been on sale for nearly three months, but we apologize for any confusion this may have caused our readers. We will be posting a follow-up evaluation of a full production X-Type shortly
