Ok to clay bar new car?

Hi guys I recently bought a new Subaru STi and was wondering if it was okay to clay bar a new car? The car is about just under 8 weeks old. I have heard the traditional "don't wax you car for six months when the paint is new" and also "new cars should be clay bared"... which?

Also if so the only clay bar I know is made by Mothers... Is this a good quality bar or is there something else I should be using?

Thanks.

Oh, I think you are pretty safe to give it the claybar/wax treatment. Who knows how long ago it was actually painted, but we typically say a month or so on this forum.

Claymagic is another popular claybar here, so is zaino Z__ (I forget), but Mothers makes a good bar too.

BTW, Welcome to Autopia and congrads on the new ride!!! :)

Quote: I am a custom painter by trade for over thirty years, and I’m very familiar with Dupont and PPG and all other paints. Today’s paint technology uses a chemical reaction caused by a catalyst to cure the paint. Factory paint is fully cured in 36 to 48 hours.

Zaino contains no Wax, Harmful Silicones or Abrasives...

The funny thing is that this same dealer who tells you to wait 30 days before waxing, usually puts a coat of wax on your car when he preps it. Sounds a little contradicting. Don't you think???

Polish your car as soon as you get it. That factory paint is already cured and needs protection against airborne contaminants and UV rays.

~One man’s opinion~

But then this same author recommends a kitchen detergent for paint preparation...

As for using clay for new cars…definitely (try ‘Searchâ€)

~Hope this helps~

IMHO, I would claybar any new car. You'll be surprised how much rail dust and other contaminants are there. You should be able to find Mothers Claybar and Clay Magic locally. Both are excellent claybars.

I inadvertently locked this thread (fat-fingers when moving it to this forum, I think) . . .

The thread is open for posting again; sorry for any moderator-induced confusion :wall

oh-dawg - Welcome to Autopia! I clayed my WRX as soon as I got it, and used AutoInt's "ABC" system on it too. The sooner you clay it, the less chance of any embedded ferrous contaminants (like rail dust) turning into "rust blooms", especially this time of year.
