Oakes - Detailed: 1995 Toyota Supra - Black Beauty

Full detail of a 1995 Toyota Supra, in Single Stage Black. The majority of this vehicle is the original paint and was showing some signs of it's age, the issue with Single Stage paint is that it's a little more delicate than Clear Coat Paint. I'm usually hesitant to use harsher compounds because I don't have layers of clear to work. Regardless, I was able to remove quite a bit of the defects and return the gloss to the entire car in prep for this weekend's Cystic Fibrosis show!

Process:

Menzerna 203 - Orange

Menzerna PO85RD - Green

Blackfire Wet Diamond Paint Sealant - Blue

Collinite's No. 845

I like it. I have to get around to tackling the SS paint on my mr2 one of these days. Too busy doing other cars.

Thanks guys! As far as the power, I don't know the exact numbers but seeing the mods - HUGE single turbo, big FMIC and a few other tid bits like a triple disc clutch and lightweight flywheel as the owner informed me has been in the car for 10 years and he loves it. My guess would be in the 500 hp range.

nice work on the car man. those are nice. I know the paint on them can be thin. That looked good! nice to see some Ardex out there!

Looks very nice but are you sure its a single stage paint? A friend of mine has one of those that had the same color when he bought it but his was clearcoated. His Supra are black with plue pearl these days, soooo beatiful :)

Btw, its odd to see them with left hand drive, almost everyone here in Sweden are imported from Japan and are right hand drive.

Nice work ;)

Awesome work! My favorite car of all time. Factory twin-turbos with simple upgrades puts around 500hp and runs 12's. I'm guessing he's in the 750+ range!:2thumbs:

Who else runs a $2000-5000 clutch?

Q: How are a 500, 700, 800, and 1200 Supra similar?

A: They all run 12s :chuckle:

edit: The clutch in my 65 shelby cobra is 3k

This car definitely moves, he's had the same clutch in the car for 10 years and loves it. You can see the car on the track as much as the streets!

Nice job bringing it back, looks terrific in the final shots. :)

Thanks again Scott! Appreciate the kind words guys!

Wow, that really came out great!

n00b question up next: so single stage paint can show swirls the same as clear coated paint?

I'm just learning about this stuff and was under the impression that swirl marring is unique to clear coat, whereas oxidation (but no swirls) is characteristic of single stage paint finishes.

Thank you!

Both Single and CC paints are subject to marring, however, you are correct in understanding the single stage is more subject to oxidation. As you can see on this Supra.
