K I bought about a 2 months ago a new Honda Accord 2003 EX Sedan (silver). I plan to buy a Mazda RX-8 in a few months as well. However I'm entirely new to the personal detailing world. Is a Polish something you are going to want to use rarely on a new car due to the abrasiveness of the substance....and just wait untill it gets a little ware before going at it? And about the waxing process...I hear people talking about multiple coats...is this safe and could there be a build up problem and should you use something to remove the wax coats ever so often before re-applying? Hope thats not asking the world ? :) hehe

Welcome to the forum Viper. You may want to start your education by hitting the learn button at the top right of your screen. Read through the forums and learn what people are using. Lots to read and learn that it may be mind numbing, nevertheless, there is a wealth of information to be gleened.

I am a newbie also and can highly recommend reading through the forum posts and searching for answers - you will probably get all your answers just spending some time (ok, maybe a lot of time) reading through the forums. Great Great Info!

ViperJPB- Welcome to Autopia. You really will find a search to be quite productive, you're not getting blown off.

Short answers:

Abrasive polishes should only be used when needed (to remove swirls/scratches, etc.) for the reason you alluded to- you don't want to take off too much paint.

You can add more protection (wax/sealant/etc.) without polishing first and any "build up" is probably DESIRABLE in most cases. If you DO want to remove said build up there are (virtually) non-abrasive products that will do that without removing paint.

Thanks a lot guys... I had read all the stuff in the Learning area before but I just needed some clarification. thanks a lot. I love this site!!
