need a good brush for chrome stock wheels

I need a really soft wheel brush that will not scratch the wheels. Searched places like CMA, top of the line, etc. and couldn't find a really soft one. I've seen some with soft bristles but I am afraid it will still scratch the chrome wheel.

I would definitely not use a brush on chrome..whether it's a wheel or a bumper...use soft cotton cloths or mf with a non-abrasive polish...:xyxthumbs

It is that OXO brand. I will look in a bit to see if I can find it. But I cleaned my rims full of crud and salt last night with it an EO AZ tire cleaner. Turned out perfect.

Hmm, well, I've been using a "Detailer's Choice" wheel brush from Wallyworld on my chrome rims for about a year now. Works great for me.

If you want a soft bristle brush, get one of Griot's Garage Boar's Hair Wheel Brushes. Griot's products aren't inexpensive, but they offer a lifetime warranty on almost everything they sell and that's worth something. Some of the stuff they carry you can find elsewhere for less money, but I haven't been able to these brushes anywhere else. I just stocked up on a bunch of brushes from Griot's and the Boar's Hair Wheel Brush was included. $20 for a tool that you will really like and use a lot, well worth the money, IMO. :up

I just ordered this one from Top of the Line

They claim its the softest wheel brush on the market and won't scratch wheels......(if its too stiff, I'll use it on my wheel wells!)

Wallyworld = Wal Mart.

If you want the best get the Griot's boar's hair brush. It won't scratch your wheels.

MildSeven- I agree with Luster and HellrotCi, you CAN'T beat the Griot's Boar's Hair Wheel Brush for gentle cleaning.

As I've said in other posts, even when the synthetic bristles are flagged, and thus VERY soft, the flagging will eventually wear down and then the brush can scratch. This just isn't a problem with the boar's hair. I used to use the synthetic brushes (including those from TOL) and they would EVENTUALLY scratch when a bristle lost its flagging and I didn't notice it in time. I've NEVER had this problem with the Griot's bushes.

I really like Irene at TOL and I patronize and plug her business whenever I can, but I don't trust ANY seller to tell me what's the safest/softest/best product. With regard to TOL's brushes, synthetic or otherwise, I've only had good luck with the small (toothbrush style) detail brushes no longer in production. And even with those you had to toss them before the bristles wore down.

lol yup! Started laughing when I read that. I should probably have been a bit more clear about that... Wallyworld is a slang term for Wal-Mart. Oh, and I usually hear decent things about OXO's brush, to try and help you out.

Sorry about that. But did you see anything you like anyway? :p

Normally, I'd agree, but my brush is pretty soft and the wheels have been taking it very well.

Oh, and I read in another post something like, "since I'm still a mod until... (midnight)...?" What was that all about? Not a mod anymore?

And I love your sig. :p

just grabbed OXO wheel brush $9 at pepboys. (oxo brand is on sale there). they had 3 of them but each brush has different stiffness. picked the softest one.

Just wondering if I should use the cotton 100% applicator (zaino dirty one) to wash rims or use brushes. I feel those sponges are more safer.

MildSeven- I worry about abrasive dirt "migrating" away from the surface enough when using a sponge or a terry applicator. You wouldn't want to rub it into the surface of the wheel. At least be sure to use something with good nap (cotton) or lots of good channels (sponge). IF (big "if") your brush is soft enough that it won't scratch your wheels, I'd use that. With the brush, I just barely "whisk" the dirt off the wheel, as opposed to scrubbing it off. I often spray the brush as well as the wheel with wheel cleaner and I rinse the brush numerous times while doing each wheel.
