My new ride - 2005 Mercury Montego Premier

Got it last week and finished detailing the exterior. I used Aqualpel on all the glass, and Zaino Z-2 Pro for the paint. I used Z-5 on the wheels and all the black grained plastic on the mirrors, the cowl, and the rocker panel, as well as the silver plastic on the grill and the deck lid trim. Color is called Merlot, and the interior is Pebble.

I really like this car. It replaced my 1996 Taurus, which I got rid of with 125,000 miles on it. This car is a little longer, a lot roomier, and is already getting better gas mileage than my Taurus.



Next step is get X-Pel installed on the headlamps and the hood.
 
Get a pro to install it. Headlights are not for the do-it-yourselfer on this car. Great install. Now I'm going to give those areas a Zaino touch up, and call it a day.
 
This is the Mercury version of the Ford 500, right? Isn't this car and the 500 basically the next generation Taurus? The lines make them look related.

Yes, this is the Mercury version of the Ford Five Hundred. Yes, it replaces the Taurus, but outside of using a version of the 3.0 Liter Duratec V-6, the Five Hundred/Montego/Freestyle have nothing in common with the Taurus. Chassis of the Five Hundred/Montego/Freestyle, code named D3, is derived from Volvo's C3 platform (S80/S90/XC90), the transmissions are all new, and the new cars come with all wheel drive as an option. Basically, these Americanized Volvo's more than anything else, and they ride and handle as such.
 
Interesting. I didn't realize that Ford owned Volvo.



Edit: What do you think of the CVT so far? I can see that becoming bigger, but it sounds so foreign to me and probably the rest of the country that I wonder how it will go over.

So far, I love it. It takes getting used to no downshifting, but with the CVT, this car is out accelerating my old Taurus, and getting better real world mileage, so far. Amazing considering it's both heavier than the Taurus and not broken in yet.
