Most Durable Finish Kare Combo?

Just wondering for those of you familiar with Finish Kare products, which one of these would give the most durable protection? This is all after a clay, polish, and IPA wipedown.

-FK215 + FK2180 x2 + FK1000p x2

-FK2180 x2 + FK1000p x2

-FK215 + FK1000p x 2

-FK1000p x2

I'm pretty sure FK2180 by itself will not last as long as FK1000p. But maybe it can extend 1000p if it's used as a base. Fk215 is supposedly a pretty good cleaner so I wonder if that can increase durability, but then I wonder again since it's not a long lasting product on it's own, that it might hurt the stuff on top.

So that's why I'm hoping someone who has extensive experience using Finish Kare products might have already figured out the most durable combo using their products.

The gentleman that answers the telephone at FK1 sez this is the most long-lasting solution they'd offer:

>> 2180 followed by two coats of 1000p <<

He suggested do a final layer with Pink Wax for a little more sizzle.

I've got 2180...wasn't terribly impressed with it. In fact, I found it very short-lived. I have not tried the process he recommended to me.

I find 2180 (the first layer) seems to just abosorb in the paint. I apply it using my PC. 2 good think coats but I have always topped it with 1000p or Pink Wax

That's the thing, it seems the consensus is 2180 doesn't last very long. So even though FK says 2180 then 1000p x2, I'm wondering if that would not be as good as 1000p x3. I don't see how something that lasts short as an LSP would make a longer lasting LSP last longer when underneath it. I would think having the most durable LSP on the bare paint would get the best adhesion.

I would do a 215 and 1000P how ever many coats you want on it . To me every coat looks like you added a clearcoat to it.

I have mixed emotions on 2180 , sometimes I swear it does nothing at all....lol . Other times ok , but not overly impressed that I would buy it . I have 2 bottle's that FK gave me for nothing.

This above is on a prepped car.

not used 2180 but was just given a bottle by a friend who didnt rate it. Was planning 215 - 1000 x2 next winter but will try a couple of layers of 2180 on one of the cars instead now :)

Problem is, we don't know how well the 1000p protects/interacts with the 2180. I wouldn't automatically make the assumption that the result would be short-lived. If the guy at FK1 says it works, and it's a recommended "solution", I'd try it and see how you feel about it (assuming you own the various products).

Personally, I'm sticking with a known commodity: KAIO (or WS Prime) topped with a couple layers of a top-shelf sealant (1000p, #885, 476S, etc.). It just works :woot:

Enjoy.

I did some test panels with a couple of different combinations. It'll take a while to see durability differences, however, I just thought of some other variables and wondering for some input.

Do you guys who layer 1000p or 2180 find any difference in durability between:

-immediately adding 2nd or 3rd layer after wiping off previous (how many coats can you actually do this way?)

-waiting 1 or more days between each layer

I got a sample of 2180 with my order of 1000p and wasnt impressed either. I'll have to try putting it under 1000p.

I would like to know how much better it will look with Pink Wax on top- anyone?

I tried a few combos and will see how they turn out

-FK215 + 2180 x3

-2180 x3

-2180 + 1000p x3

-1000p x3

I did all the layers within 20 minutes of each other except for the final layer which I did a day later. I hope these products can layer this way without removing the previous since it didn't have time to cure. Especially the layers between different products.
