Meguiars: Consumer vs pro. equivalents ???'s

Hello,

Meguiars is one of the 'quality' lines that we are able to readily get hold of in the UK - the consumer/mirror glaze/detailer lines.

Looking through their Consumer-level catalogue and Pro-level catalogues I've noticed there are several products that seems to have equivalents in the consumer/mirror glaze/detailer lines.

I was hoping that some kind person on this board could tell me the differences between the relevant products and if they really are equivalents. The pro. gear seems to come in bigger bottles at a more economic price level that the smaller consumer bottles, so if consumer = pro, I may as well mail order the pro. stuff.

Okay, here's the list:

1) Consumer Cleaner Wax vs/equals Pro #6 Cleaner/Wax vs/equals Detailer Cleaner/Wax

2) Consumer Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner vs/equals Pro #62 Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner vs/equals Detailer Car Wash Soap

3) Consumer Natural Shine & Rubber Protectant vs/equals Pro #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner vs/equals Detailer S-dressing

4) Consumer Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel vs/equals Pro #38 Tire & Trim Dressing Gel

5) Consumer Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner vs/equals Pro #36 Hi-tech Wheel Cleaner vs/equals Detailer Wheel Brightener

6) Consumer All Metal Restorer vs/equals Pro All-Metal Polish

7) Consumer Odor Eliminator vs/equals Pro #23 Odor Eliminator

8) Consumer Quik Detailer vs/equals Pro #34 Final Inspection vs/equals Detailer Final Detail

9) Consumer Gold Class Leather Cleaner & Conditioner vs/equals Medallion Premium Leather Care vs/equals Detailer Leather Cleaner & Conditioner

I also would like to know which Mirror Glaze/Detailer products are the equivalent of the following consumer level products, please:

10) Consumer Scratch X = Mirror Glaze/Detailer .............?

11) Consumer Clear Coat Body Scrub = Mirror Glaze/Detailer .............?

12) Consumer Quik Wax = Mirror Glaze/Detailer .............?

13) Consumer Extra Tough All Surface Cleaner = Mirror Glaze/Detailer .............?

14) Consumer Carpet & Interior Cleaner = Mirror Glaze/Detailer .............?

15) Consumer Gold Class Clear Coat Liquid Wax = Mirror Glaze/Detailer .............?

I suspect the various ranges are all pretty much the same, except for perhaps a little stronger as you progress through the ranges, but also that they are available in MUCH larger sizes than the consumer line. Can anyone confirm this for me.

Many thanks for all your help,

Face

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with the consumer line. I'd find a way to get either the Mirror Glaze or (preferrably) the Body Shop Professional line. Both the MG and BSP lines are noticably superior to the consumer (burgandy bottle) products.

I would agree that some of the pro line products are superior, but there are some of the consumer lines which have value for certain situations.

Keep in mind that Faceman can't just stop by his local body supply store and get whatever Meguiar's or 3M product he wants. One advantage he does have, he doesn't need to sort through so many different products to decide what to try.;)

Many of us, (recreational detailers), probably have more products on hand than many countries have choices. Some of them, we even use.

Ayyyyeeeee.............. you want us to comment on 15 combinations of 36 different products?????????????

Why haven't you contacted Meguiar's directly and asked them? No one here knows the in's and out's of their product line as well as they do.

When you want to know how products within a mfr compare, ask the mfr first. They know their product line better than anyone.

I think Bret's advice is the best. :up

You'll find some products are not duplicated in multiple lines. Some that come to mind are:

Hot Rims vs. #36 (which I heard is very gentle)

DACP

Gold Class wax

Quik Wax

ScratchX

Sometimes there are products that may be similar, but with slight differences. Also there are many Mirror Glaze or Detailer line products that simply don't exist in the Consumer lineup. Best to talk to Megs about this.

Many thanks for all the replies, guys.

I will e-mail the list off to Meguiars, but I was hoping for, and recieved, some impartial advice first. Didn't want meguairs trying to pull the wool over my eyes and blinding me with science ;)

See ya,

Meguairs UK, do sell the pro-range, they just do not advertise it. Send them an email and I am sure they will help. I and several others have bought the pro stuff from them.

Dont forget 3M, sold nation wide.
