making my own qd

Well, this post might rank up there as being maybe the stupidest one, but I'm willing to endure the pain. Say my vehicle has light dust and/or fingerprints and I use a silicone free qd like meguiar's FI or mother's showtime, or something of the like. The reason for silicone free is because I don't care about shine enhancing properties/enhancing the gloss. My main concern is getting the surface clean. Now, what would be the difference from using the above qd's compared to mixing my car wash soap and water in a spray bottle and using that as a qd? I mean we all wash our vehicles with soap and water, so what's the difference if I put it in a spray bottle? The only thing I can think of that might be better with a genuine qd is that it has more lubrication properties?

QEW would also work for this and would probably be cheaper than PoorBoys Spray and Wipe. You only need 1 Ounce of QEW per Gallon of water. You could make a gallon of this stuff for the price of 1 ounce of QEW. I have been using this instead of quick detailer for clay lube. Works good, provides great lube and wipes off residue free so I don't have to rewash the car.

1 gallon of Megs Final Inspection costs about $40 CDN around here. I purchased 1 gallon of QEW for $27 US. If you use 1 ounce per gallon of water you could mix 128 gallons of this stuff, that is a very cheap QD.

Maybe not as cheap as 128 gallons for $28Us, but I've found that a 50-50 mix of Showtime/FI works wonderfully. I like the shine of the Showtime and the lubrication of the FI- now I have both in 1 bottle (using a Meg's QD, not FI bottle) and could'nt be happier.

As a bonus, the smell is absolutely intoxicating; second only to my Z6.:xyxthumbs
