iPod problems

COME AT ME BRO
I know this is a detailing forum. With that being said, let's see if any of you technology saavy folks have had or have heard about this or a similar problem. I've got a new iPod with about 4,000 songs on it so far. I did a fairly large update this morning, and now I am noticing some of my songs are not playing although the iPod screen shows the info for the song (name, artist, time, etc.). Also, some of the songs are cutting off at the end (or close to the end). I have not dropped the iPod, and FWIW, some of these same songs were playing fine before. I haven't had the chance to get home and actually see if these songs will play thru iTunes yet or not. Anyone have any guesses as to what is up? I am hoping that something happened with the update this morning and the mp3's are all okay on my hard drive as some of the cd's I ripped have now been sold. ANY and ALL suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

When you get home, open up the iPod update software and do a restore. This will erase everything on your Pod but once it's done, iTunes will load it all up again. You can also try resetting it by holding the Play/Pause button and Menu button at the same time for a few seconds.

That's a good idea, but I wouldn't do that until you have verified that all your songs are ok in iTunes on your computer. But what do I know? I'm just a g**l :lol

well Nora another girl across the table from me says that you are correct. she also says , "go girl".

Got a chance to foll around with it last night. All songs on my hard drive are okay and playing fine through iTunes. I have some suggestions here from a guy at work that I am going to try along with your suggestion Spoiledman. Hopefully I can get it working like it's supposed to.

Jared, I was pretty sure that the songs on your computer would be fine but I had to give Norah her moment. :rofl If you even have some iPod problem that you can't find the answer to just take a look at www.ipoding.com and look around there.

cwcad - :bigups to your lady!! Great minds think alike!! ;)

Spoiled - thanks for my "moment" :lol I still say, better safe than sorry! ;) And thanks for the tip :bow

Jared - glad that they're ok on your computer, at least you haven't lost your "tunes" :D

After doing a LOT of reading on this subject today, I have found that many iPod users are experienceing this "difficulty." I also found a relatively easy, although tedious, solution. The songs that are being skipped or cut short need to be played on the computer via the iPod. Don't know why this works or who figured it out, but it works. Me and a guy from work have been fooling with it all day, and decided to give it a shot. So now, I'm just gonnna play a few seconds of every song on the iPod over a few days to get it all in order. Thanks for all the tips.

Norah, if you don't mind ask Bryce if he's ever heard of such and get back to me on what he says.

JaredPointer,

i have been showing the thread about the ipod problems to my wife. i read your answer to her about your problems and the way you think that you have solved same.

she thinks that it has to do with digital rights management. by playing a little of the music on the computer somehow tricks the digital rights management into thinking that it is ok because it belongs to you. according to my wife it makes sense. she was having problems recording dvd's until she came up with this method.

i consider my wife a credible source. of course this information is also worth what it costs.

Jared,
I asked Bryce about your "fix", and he said he had never heard of it, and can't really see why it would work, as songs that you have ripped to your pc should not have DRM issues, but if it's working for you, go with it.
He also said if this continues to be a problem, a trip to the Apple Store might be in order.
Just a thought from me - when you did the big update, did you remove the iPod "properly" - ie, is it possible that it was not fully done & now by replaying them through your computer it is really allowing it to "complete" the update?? :dunno
Norah

Edit: Never mind my theory, Bryce just shot it down :(

cwcad: Thanks to you and your wife. :bigups

Norah: I have been doing some heavy reading at Apple's discussion forums and this seems to be a problem that quite a few people have had. There's about 15 different ways to fix it, and the first one I could really try seemed to work for me. As far as updating goes, when I did the last big one I had it set to auto synch (automatic update), but have now turned that off. Now I will manually update my iPod from my library via iTunes. For some reason a lot of people have been having trouble with the auto synch and for that reason I'll just do it myself.

I made a list of songs that were acting funny yesterday and went home last night and played the first 2 seconds of every song via the iPod thru the computer. They are all now magically fixed. :dunno Go figure. I'll just do it to the rest of my iPod library and keep an eye on anything new I put on it.
