Having had the good fortune to try a goodly portion of the newly-reformulated Blackfire line-up, trying a new addition - especially after a Super Secret Sale - was a moral imperative.

Yes, I bought three without fear. I strongly suspected how this was going to turn out.

Preparation:

Washed car (in this particular case with Pinnacle XMT Gel Shampoo & Conditioner [new formula]) and thoroughly dried with 8hp MetroVac MasterBlaster. Followed with Blackfire Wet Diamond Waterless Wash as a QD.

Application:

Shake very well. Spray (very) lightly on surface. Wait for product to haze. Wipe off with plush MF. I also followed with a second - just to be sure. Easy as lying (gratuitous "Firefly" reference).

Observations:

Apply lighter than you think. No lighter. Not that applying heavy is bad or makes it difficult to remove, is just a waste of product. And, trust me, you don't want to do that. I started out way too heavy and, as I worked my way around the car, used less and less and got better and better results. Absolutely stunning finish. After about 24 hours in the garage, there is less dust on the paint than normal.

Only minor hitch was the scent. Not overpowering but Raid - really? Maybe that was Todd's way of trying to get us to use less product.

Does it meet its claims? Yes.

Pros:

1.- Easy application and removal
2.- Fast application - maybe 30 min and I'm very slow
3.- Awesome finish.

1.- Durability - again, I'll never know.

Cons:

1.- Scent could be improved.

Final Observations and Summary:

I really like Blackfire Midnight Sun Spray Wax. For my situation where a quick, easy-to-apply beauty wax is all I need, it is about perfect. The resulting finish is exactly what I like - IMHO maybe even better than Midnight Sun proper. Obviously wouldn't expect Midnight Sun's durability. So, if you have a solidly protected vehicle but want that last bit of dripping wet pop, not sure you can do better.

i'm all for the quick and easy application, but those results are very good. much better gloss compared to the older version of the bf spray.

I know what you mean. I even struggle trying to keep Sprayway off of the paint when using it on glass and stopped using it there! BF MSSW was relatively easy to control and, once you get the light touch down, overspray is minimal. It also just wipes right off of the glass and I haven't noticed any loss of clarity.

When I arranged the pic of the three cans I wasn't paying attention to which was the "used" can. I could not easily tell after by weight. Guessing quite a few.

Update -

The dust repelling properties are not overstated. A week with rain (no spots) and Texas wind & sun and the car looked like it was garage kept for the week. It even slept outdoors two days. All that and still looked great. Cannot express how impressed I am with BF Midnight Sun Spray Wax.

Great news!

I applied two coats today to my jet black car hood. The first application was spray, wait and then buff. Waited 5+ hours (working from home today) before second application. This time I sprayed, wiped hood with foam applicator (one spray on applicator), waited and then buffed. Haven't taken the car out of the garage yet but hope to get the car out in the sun for a drive tomorrow.

I also agree that the smell is closer to a can of Raid than anything else. I suspect there is a reason for that but I'm at a loss to understand why.

glfahlc1 - it "hazes" in only a couple of minutes - at least here in early summer. I pretty much sprayed a body panel and by the time I set the can down and picked up a MF, it was ready.

I question how there could be "Ivory Wax" in an aerosol can? How different is Ivory than Nuba? I am curious because the Midnight Sun get such good reviews in the old paste style I'm dying to try some, but the speed of a aerosol can sure does reduce application time. Todd tell me more.

Ivory is the color of the refined carnauba used. It is liquified in solvents (or something like that). As the solvents dissipate, it leaves the 'nuba behind. Pretty much all waxes (paste, liquid or spray) work this way.

Gotcha. But If I understand 'nuba correctly, the higher the % of it the more solid the form is going to be? Correct me if I'm wrong but like around 70% is max and the wax is in a hard form? That said, the lower the percentage, the softer it can be due to the fact the is less 'nuba in it. More fillers than wax?

Pure carnauba is rock hard. My understanding is the max usable carnauba content is 30-50%. Solvents, oils, other non-'nuba waxes or, in some cases, polymers do comprise the majority content. The softer the wax, the more it is other stuff.

With the old formula, this was the correct procedure. This is a completely all-new formula which should see massive improvements in gloss, longevity, and dust repellency.

You want to let the product sit on the paint for several minutes after applying in most situations. It will lightly haze/skim over.
