I'm Stupid! /Tire Dressing Error

DEFINITELY the mold release compound. 500 miles, then you can pound on them.

Slight drift:

I love S-03s, I've put about 30000 miles on 2 sets of them. But there are a few compromises you make to get that PHENOMENAL wet and dry grip:

1) They flat-spot easily. Just sitting in the garage overnight, even in the middle of summer, and they are rough for the first mile or so. In April and October, it's about 5 miles til they spin evenly. The solution is to run them with a tad more air than you think you want.

2) They tramline (follow road grooves). This is worse at lower speeds. I've actually had them catch a groove as I was coming to a stoplight and yank the wheel HARD.

3) They feel every single little road imperfection; it's like I'm hard-wired to every pebble and crack in the road. The solution is to run them with a little LESS air than you think you want (yeah, counter to solution #1).

I run them at 29 psi in the middle of summer, and 31 psi in the spring & fall.

That being said, this is a tire you can drive to the track, run all day, and drive home on. I know, I've done that. I run them at 38 psi on the track.

I have the JR front & rear sways, Koni coilovers, Brembo rotors & Mintex pads, and SSR Comps as mods with those tires.

FYI, the back page of this month's Discover magazine has a dissection of a modern high performance tire, and they use an S-03 as an example.

Tom,

I have the same problem with out-of-round when these Kuhmos sits for a period of time. This has because a big problem because the vehicle these tires are on is rarely driven. I will try the increase air while in storage. They do come back to round after a fews miles. I did not have this problem with my Goodyears or Firehawks.

I guess this is the trade-off for width (contact pad increase) and performance. :xyxthumbs

Years ago when i worked ion a motorcycle shop on Rt 9 in MA we had a guy come in and get new tires put on his V Max. I was standing there when the Svc manager warned him to take it easy for a little bit but noooo, this guy rolls to the edge of the lot and cranks full on thriottle to jet out onto the road....well, he eneded up doing 2 complete 360's than laying it down and we were able to get to hmim and the bike befre tarffic came and ran him over...he was very quiet after that
