Ideal Shop Vac & Detailing Attachments?

Starting up shop for a small, mostly-for-fun detailing business. The one unknown is what shopvac is the best value for detailing, in terms of performance/cost ratio? Also, what set of attachments will help me be most effective when vacuuming out customers cars?

A lower priority but still nice is if there was a good attachment for the blower aspect to assist drying?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can offer!

I would say save on the attachments and get power. I have 2 attachments and I can get er done. I have A general carpet one and one for getting in corners. that's it. the more power the better.

I use the Lowes version that is 5.5HP and 4.5 Gal. It is very powerful and easy to move around due to the size. I love it. Just my 2 cents.

I had similar dilemma not that long time ago ... after long researching got this Vacmaster Amazon.com: Vacmaster VWM510 Wall Mount Wet/Dry Vacuum Powered by Industrial 2-Stage Motor with Remote Control, 5…

You can have it on your wall in the garage and just use 21' hose, that way you don't even have to move it. Also remote control on it is really handy!

Has a good variety of attachments too.

So far I am happy with it!

That vac is VERY similar to the Ridgid Stor-N-Go WD5500. If someone is interested in that style vac and you're willing to give up remote control in return for a lifetime warranty, my local Home Depots are closing that model out for $45. (Note: It does not appear on homedepot.com, this is an in-store close-out

I have the same unit and kit plus I got the Husky? kit that includes smaller tools. It is not the most powerful unit but seems to work fine. It has 1/2 the water lift as the Metro units. The blower mode will not dry very well so I do have my eyes on the Metro Master Blaster.

That's the exact setup I use around the house and when I need to extract moisture from carpets, etc. For regular dry vacuuming, I just bought a GarageVac. Made in the US, 6 year warranty, 100 CFM, 100" of water lift, 12 amp motor, 4" deep on the wall with a 40' hose that contracts to 8'. It is also a thing of beauty on the wall. If a vacuum can be called beautiful, this is it.):

+1. I really like the 4070. It has the HP (and price) of the larger units, but it is very portable. If you use the bags as well, it helps keep dust down.

I tend to go with the Shop vacs. but the last one I got on Xmass eve is kind of cheap. Probably going to try out the Ridgid the next time I need a vac.

But I don't think I could live without my micro cleaning tools for the shop vac. They have two different size brush attachments that are perfect for vents and getting down into crevices when I am doing a mobile detail. IF I am at home I have my compressor to blow out dust and dirt but on the road I couldn't live without these tools.. They alos have long curved extensions that really get down between the seats and in areas that are impossible to reach. Would strongly suggest you purchasing a set. Wallmart has them for 12 bucks and the last shop vac I bought came with a set.
