I WAS going to ask if carnauba waxes are still relevant and not so much about how much or the percentage of carnauba content in a wax. And yes, there are different grades or qualities of carnauba. Most quality car waxes use the higher quality and hence more expensive waxes. Funny thing is I think high quality carnauba is sold in flake form, not as a solid block or liquid.
Anyway, carnauba wax is STILL relevant to me and my preferred LSP for appearance purposes, and here are my reasons:
1) Ease of application
2) Great shine and carnauba glow (you know it when you see it)
3) Readily available
4) Cost per application (an expense beauty wax may cost $150, but you may get 10- to-15 applications from it.)
5) Long shelf life IF stored cool, dry, and sealed in container (in my garage refrigerator....don't laugh!)
Disadvantages are:
1) No longevity
2) Limited surface protection from environmental contamination.
3) Time needed for re-applications to maintain wax appearance (some do not mind, it IS part of detailing car-care)
4) Not as hydrophobic (water beading or water shedding) as some newer coatings
