How do you clean dirty seats belts?

I have a vehicle that needs the seat belts cleaned. They are rather dirty and light in color (tan). Is there a procedure to rejuveniate while still in vehicle?

TIA

Seat Belts:

·Clean seat belts with a Woolite® distilled water solution

.For spot stains use a fabric cleaner (303 Cleaner & Spot RemoverTM)

Pull the belts from the retractor and gently close the door on the belt, clean and allow to air dry before opening the door and retracting the belt.

·Do not use bleach or strong detergents, or dye on the seat belts as this may severely weaken them and render them ineffective in a crash.

Thanks Bill (dedicated seat belt cleaner source) and Jon (great tip about pulling belts outside of vehicle and safety concerns). :bow

For $8 plus shipping the cleaner is worth a try. :xyxthumbs

TOGWT, good advice, especially on your last point.

A couple of years back I had the unfortunate need to have a smash repair after being rearended. When I got the car back I found that they had dripped a spot of paint on one of the seat belts. I insisted that the belt be replaced as there was a distinct probability that the belt's webbing was compromised.

I just use oxyclean. I have a spray bottle of it. I warm it and spray down the seat belts. Just let sit and wipe down and wala! You don't need all that cleaner stuff.

Woolite does work great. Just as good as club soda.

Oxy-clean bleach lightens or oxidizes as it contain hydrogen peroxide (oxygen bleach) and there active ingredients are generally considered to be a corrosive. Ensure that surface/material is thoroughly rinsed with water to neuteralize bleach.

Sound Advice indeed. Anything other than a very mild cleaner diluted with soap and water can weaken the seat belt. This is information straight from the vehicle manufacturers recommendations.:up
