How do I clean Carpets that arenot 'color fast'?

Working on a '59 Rolls Silver Cloud. Tested the carpet with a damp terry and there's color transfer <_< I stopped there. Haven't worked to see just how far I could go before an area will begin to show discoloration.


 


The carpet has some lightly soiled areas. Hoping for suggestions as how to proceed.

I clean my Turkish rugs with 2:1 distilled white vinegar / distilled water (usual disclaimer - test on an inconspicuous place first)

No clue? I'm not sure I'd want to introduce any wetness into this? Maybe foam or a damp toweling. How bad is this?

There are a number of dry carpet cleaning systems out there--the only one that comes to mind right now is Capture cleaner.  These may work for you as no water is involved.

I just tried it and it worked. I did a search selecting TOGWT as the author and WILTON as the search content. Came up with a few of your articles. Here is one:
