Headlights

Hey guys,

What kinda stuff do yall do to keep the plastic/glass on the headlights crystal clear? They just really stand out to me when they are hazy or yellowish. Kinda ruins it when you have a perfect paint finish and hideous headlights staring you in the eye. Are they removable most of the time? Should I risk taking them off to clean inside? Glass polish should work I am guessing. Any tips would help.

I have the same problem. The headlamps are so yellow it affects the lighting. I think it is caused from the inside. Do I have to replace them or can it be cleaned?

Meguiar's #17, then #10, then #18 is good for cleaning up your lamp covers. Plexus is better for routine cleaning.

Headlights can be all one piece, which cannot be seperated to clean the insides, and they can be a two piece type. On many of the two piece types you can remove the "plastic" cover, which is I believe a polycarbonate, and clean the interior of the lamp assembly and the inside of the plastic lens.

You can use the Meguirs plastic polish for this BUT the Meguirs plastic polish is their furniture polish (no longer bottled) repackaged. I prefer the Plexus product myself or any non abrasive paint polish. Pinnacle Cleansing Lotion works great on plastics.

Then you have a one piece plastic head lamp assembly. Nothing abrasive should be used on these as they will scratch and mar.

If moisture is getting in and fogging up the inside and causing them to turn yellow then these are more likely plastic covers. Novus makes a great 3 step cleaning, polsihing and protection system for plastics.

Hope that helps,

Anthony

Yea, thats what I was thinkin. Thanks for the heads up on the Novus, I am gonna try that. In the mean time, out to the Lexus to see if I can't pry that plastic/glass cover off....

After you restore the lenses to where you're satisfied with them you can put Klasse AIO on them, it works well on head and tail lights

hi i was wondering if anyone can help me out? I wet sanded my headlights and fallowed up with some 3m polish compound. After that the headlights look amazing not a single scratch! But at night when i turn the headlights on theres a light film of hazy over them. I try using 3m plastic polish,nu finish plastic polish, and plastx but none seem to work! any suggestions on how to get them clear?

There is only one thing you can do once you scratch plastic up like that.

Use a super fine polish and a high speed buffer to wear the surface down smooth again.

If you hadn't said so I would have never believed that was a resurfaced lens.

It looks like new, Great job. How long did it take from start to finish? Did you use a sealer?
