Hard Water Stain On Windows......

I been detailing vehicles for years now, and where i live now i have well water, welp after a couple of months of washing the vehicle it gets a purple'ish like orange stain on the windows..... And when it comes to waxing, restoring and just all out making a car look good ive got it whooped, well this stain on these windows have me whooped, i cant seem to find anything that will take it off. A brilo pad, but that will just scratch the glass... So does anyone here know what i might be able to use to get it gone?- Thanks

Some people have had good results with steel wool, while others have damaged their windshields.

I would go with an abrasive glass polish.

I've had 100% positive results with this. After use you must rinse everything very well.....messy but effective.

What kinda stores can that Bar Keepers Friend be bought in, thats a first time of seeing that stuff for me.

See here about a year or so ago i detailed cars at a dealership, we got Show Car Products and i had the same stain on my car and i found a bottle of something made by Show Car and it green kinda like wax and i just rubbed it across it and it came off and i left out of there before i could ask the guy what it was. And ended up loseing the stuff afterwards of doing the one car's windows.

Anywhere and everywhere - Family Fare - Meijer - Target - Walmart

Just go to the cleaning section and you will find some brand of it

Agreed. It's a common cleaner that will not scratch glass, s/s sinks, countertops, etc. We get it at Wal-Mart.

have you tried clay on the glass yet? ive always found a good claying session to be the answer for any real stubborn stains

I found some Bar Keepers Friend. I went into a Ace Hardware store to buy a section of chain and i walked down through the isle and first thing i spotted was that. I hadnt never seen it or even used it.

I know you said its messy but will it damage my paint job?. I mean im fixing to get the car repainted but dont care much on using it if its gonna do any harm to it..

I Appriciate everyones help.

Here is the MSDS for it, it says it contains Oxalic Acid if I am reading correctly? I have always found it to be extremely gentle and never had any problems using it without gloves. My guess is just having the Bar Keepers friend run off the side of your car when you are rinsing will not do any harm? I could be wrong however.

The only harm would come if you did not rinse the car well and tried to wipe it down with the remnants of the powder still on the paint. I rinse extremely well and then wash the car as I normally would. That's my regimen but you certainly don't have to do it that way. Try a small amount applied with a damp sponge on the offending glass and wipe it down with a damp towel then a dry one. If that clears it up (may need to be done twice) then it's worth doing the whole gorilla. It has always worked for me but I'm not afraid to really scrub the bad spots either. I hope it works as well for you. Please let us know. Never once has it scratched or hazed a windshield.

PS I likely shouldn't have responded under the professional detailer's area because I don't consider myself a pro. I'm just trying to pass along something I found that works, that's all.

Here is another alternative from Lynn whom I trust implicitly:

Ill give it a try, ill rinse the windshield, soak a terry cloth and try it that way. then once i try it ill just try to wipe it off as much as possible then rinse it so there wont be if any left anywhere.

Its says though in the NOTE: Do not use on laquered surfaces? I dont believe it will hurt it to be rinsed off the car maybe it just mean dont scrub the stuff onto laquer finishes.
