Got a some questions...

I've been looking into a machine polisher for some time and ready to buy now, again. I have very light webbing/swirls and some very light scratches; all are mostly on the truck/hood for some reason...

I've used the Porter-Cable 7424 before, but it's been awhile. I now see there is something new out, the "Ultimate Detailing Machine".

Is there any difference between the two?

What pads should I be looking to get?

Or is there a really good 'bang for the buck' package deal out?

I have a few things left over from Meguairs when I had the 7424; Meguiar's #9 and #83; and newer stuff NXT wax and clay bar. What else should I look into picking up?

tia! :up

The udm has a little more power but compared to the flex xc3401vrg its just a buffer in my expeirence.I have had the pc for quite a while and also used my buddie,s udm and they cant compare to the flex i just got.It took less then half the time to do the car and it came out so much better.

I would just spend the extra money and get a real polisher.

Hum never heard of that before. I might just stick with these 2 for now :nervous2: Ok I found a bunchh of "package deals". I want to keep it around the $200 range...

Thoughts/insights on these? Some better than others?

Hum, what about the ones I posted above?
Some of the package deals look good, but if they come with a lot of stuff (polish, etc.) that you'll never use it diminishes the savings.

If you're still thinking of a PC or UDM I'd go with the UDM. Figure out what pads (and how many of each) you want and see what that sells for. If you can get a package deal cheaper go for it, but only if it has pads and products that you'll actually use. I'd recommend a minimum of two orange (light cut) pads, three white (polish) pads, and one or two finish pads (if you plan to apply wax or sealants by machine).

You can get a UDM for ~ $140:

Then look at what a set of 5.5 - 6.5" pads that will suit your needs sell for. A few vendors offer a special on something like a 6 pack of pads.

Hum. Any good sites to check for the pads? What other products should I be looking into? I will just be doing a few really bad cars, but other than that mostly just mine (just need to remove swirls mostly)
