Going to see my son play some college football on Saturday

He plays for Greenville Colllege in southern Illinois. D3 but it is still college football. :)

He plays fullback and on the kickoff return team.

I have a long drive ahead of me in the morning, something like 700-725 miles, I think. Too bad I have to turn around and go back on Sunday, it would be nice to meet some fellow Autopians in the St. Louis/southern Illinois area.

That's real cool Scott, regardless of the division. NFL scouts search all the divisions ;) Who knows, you may have seeded the next Mike Alstott! Then you can own those Bentleys and Porsches you detail!

There's nothing like college ball. I attended Indiana University when Trent Green played. Game day was a ton of fun with all the tailgating.

College Football Saturdays are so much fun!

Good luck to your son, Scott. :) That's awesome!

I'm just getting ready for when we play Indiana tomorrow!

GO BLUE!

Just got back from a trip which included the final game of my nephew. Would not trade it for the world.

Cannot imagine the excitement that would be created if it were my son playing .

Good Luck to your son!!

My nephew got signed up for the Miami Dolphins this year.

TE Joe Munson (6-3, 235, 5/23/83, from Troy State)

TE-JOE MUNSON – Lettered the last two years (2003-04) at Troy State after transferring from Butte Junior College in Oroville, Calif., where he played from 2001-02 . . . Appeared in 15 games in his career at Troy and caught three passes for 29 yards and two touchdowns . . . All of receiving statistics came in his senior season . . . Played both tight end and linebacker in junior college . . . Majored in graphic design . . . Prepped at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, Calif., where he played along both the offensive and defensive lines, as well as linebacker and tight end . . . Also lettered in track & field . . . Born May 23, 1983 in Chico, Calif.

The drive was 743 miles from my brother's house in Rockwall (east side of the metromess) since I spent Thursday night there so I wouldn't have to drive through Dallas on a Friday morning. I was able to hop right on the freeway and avoid any rush hour traffic! I made it to Greenville, Illinois in about 10 1/2 hours. Yes, I was slightly exceeding the speed limit! With stops, I averaged just over 71 mph. ;)

Similar pace on the way back except I had to drive all the way home in Arlington, so it was 791 miles and took 11 hours, 20 minutes. Fun.

Had a great time there, really a great bunch of kids in the football program. Small school, about 1250 students so a tour of the campus didn't take long at all. We had a nice father/son breakfast before the game at the student cafeteria, probably half the players Dads were able to make it up. :)

My ex-wife also drove in and brought my younger son so I was able to spend time with him as well. All in all, a pretty good weekend....except for the people who seem completely unable to grasp the concept of "slower traffic stay to the right" and "left lane for passing only". ;)

Good luck with the trip.

Signed: A former Iowa State Cyclone :D
Prinz,

When were you at Iowa State? I was at ISU from '83-'88 (the Walden/Criner years, not a good time for the Cyclone football fans, unfortunately).

They're a lot more fun to watch play these days (sorry, Buffalo fans!)
