Here is a three way review/comparison of glass cleaners:

As you can see the windshield was divided into three sections (I hope they're equalish, but I don't think they are - no matter.)

As said above the three are:

Auto Finesse Crystal Glass Cleaner

Invisible Glass

SONAX Glass Cleaner

For a control, one type of glass-specific microfiber towel was used. In this case it was Microfiber Madness Cloudbuster Glass Cleaning Towel.

First, the Auto Finesse: it is a quality glass cleaner. The spray on the bottle is one of the best in the industry, and it provides an even coverage, albeit fine spray. Several pumps were needed to adequately coat the section of the windshield.

The Invisible Glass is what I had used pretty much ever since I was 16. The only other glass cleaner I had used prior to IG was a sample of DP Krystal Glass Cleaner. It does a good job at quickly cleaning the grime.

The SONAX is another quality product, but what else would you expect from the name? The sprayer throws a lot of product. It is a soap-ier product, which I think Nick commented on during his review of the product. I did not think that this aspect was any bit a detriment to the overall performance of the product.

Now the results:

I know it is hard to see, so let me say that each cleaned the glass nicely, however there are clear (no pun intended) winners.

First Place: SONAX
Second Place: Auto Finesse
Third Place: Invisible Glass

I believe that the SONAX glass cleaner is the best, by a pretty far margin. It cleaned very well, even though my windshield was not that dirty. It wiped cleanly, cutting through grime and without streaks.

The Auto Finesse is a great product, and would probably be the best glass cleaner I had ever used if I had failed to buy the SONAX. I think it fails to cut through the tough grime, but did wipe cleanly and clearly. Strong second, and would make a strong addition to anyone's arsenal, especially since the bottles are a work of art!

The Invisible Glass is the ole stand-by! It is a good product, but there are better products out there, but you'll pay for 'em. This is the cheapest (by a wide margin) and works pretty well.

I hope you enjoyed and I look forward to all questions and comments!

Happy detailing!

Thanks for taking the time to make a comparison. A windshield is the ultimate test.

I've been letting foam cleaners like IG, Sprayway, Zep, dwell for 90 seconds before removing. It makes a difference when it comes to lifting bugs and road grime from windshield.

I never use chemicals on side and rear glass as it's treated with BFWD, and all it takes is a towel wipe-down after the wash.:)

Thanks for the review. The only one I have used is Stoners. I find the difference between wipe out ability and leaving no streaks is more a variable than the cleaning but that is also influenced by technique (how much you use, how many towels, type of towel).

Thank you all for the kind replies!

I agree that glass, especially windshields, are largely technique driven, and, at least in my opinion, is one of the hardest things to "master". I tried to keep it as even as possible, including using a dedicated glass cleaning towel and adequate, but not excessive, amounts of each product. The Auto Finesse Crystal was the only real different application because of how fine the sprayer atomizes the cleaner - it really is a different experience than anything I have ever found on this side of the pond (I know Dodo Juice uses the same type sprayer so maybe it's common in the UK).

I look forward to any other questions and/or comments!
