Garden Hose Filter?!

I've seen the cans people constructed with filters, but I remeber I've seen filters that attach directly to your hose at the end and filter to keep water spots down, I believe they use them for RV/ MArine apps. I'm wanting something semi-inexpsensive to filter for my washing and keep water spots down. Any other ideas or suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Funny..I was at HD the other day and found a GE..in line..whole house filter..I was thinking that with a couple of fittings..screwing this thing to the side of my house..connecting to the faucet with a short hose..then connecting my wash hose to the outlet. The filter assembly was $19..the best charcoal filters were $12 for 2. It said the best filter cartridges could remove particles doen to 2 microns and were good for up to 3 months of whole house use. Just washing cars twice a week, I'd bet you could get a whole washing season out of one cartridge.

why do we need filtered water for washing our cars

help prevent water spots... The water where I live is worthless but I do not have a water softener and really don't want one but it would be nice to get a "spot free" rinse or as close as you can.

is a filter going to provide spot-free rinsing?

Sounds like people should try the Duragloss #901 shampoo if they're having spoting issues.

Tom do you think Duragloss shampoo would help with hard water spotting. I'm usually real careful but once in awhile, I'll find one the next day that had leaked from a body panel its a nasty white spot or one I just overlooked! Thanks

Yes, it sure should. Sometimes I wash my daily driver with it (Duragloss) and don't dry it....no spots after the air dry...it's a nice feature.

Water is different everywhere in the country. I can see how a water softener system would help but not a simple filter.

The Duragloss is $4...give it a try...tell 'em Bretfraz sent you !

It surprises me how people have the false belief that in-line water sediment filters will reduce water spotting.

Water spots caused by "hard" water mineral content can only prevented by ion exchange mechanisms, not simple filtration.

You'll need a resin impregnated filter or a reverse osmosis filter to get rid of the ions causing water spots.

The in-line water filters (not the de-ionizers) are pure detailing placebo.
