Folex, what all can it be used on?

"Luck" Residue of design
Hi everyone, I have read over the years where a lot of detailers use Folex with fantastic results on carpets. I have a Subaru to do a full interior detail on tomorrow. I just bought a bottle of Folex to try out on this car. This Subie has fabric seats and a headliner that seems to be made of a microfiber material similar to what is found on microfiber recliners (almost a suede like material). Do any of you guys/gals that use Folex have any experience using it on fabric seats and headliners?

Dave -I'm a fan of Folex and for carpet its great. Never had a call for headliner cleaning yet. I have used it to clean the two fake brushed suede (Thats what I call this material) recliners in my home. It removed ice cream and soda stains left by grandkids and grease stains left by some idiot that is married to my wife. The grease took a couple of extra applications and made HER happy.

Dave, IME yes to Folex on both carpets and upholstery. For headliners I have generally used the "dry foam" type cleaners such as DRI-CLEAN by Blue Coral (my favorite among this type of product). ONCE I did use a Bissel canister floor cleaning machine (now long gone) with Bissel cleaner and COLD water on a headliner with red soda "explosion". Oddly enough it cleaned it w/o requiring a specific red dye cleaner. I did work to limit the amount of wetting I did to the fabric. All that said, I don't know a good reason for not spot testing Folex on that headliner material. I wouldn't be surprised to read your report that it did the job.

Thanks Mr.Clean. I have been on a search to find something cheap that will clean interiors as well as Poorboy's APC does. I have yet to find it. Maybe Folex will be the one. We'll see tomorrow.

Dave
I have used Folex on headliners. I dampen a MF with it then scrub. Mostly done sunroof covers that get those black lines. I have yet to apply it directly though for fear of blotches.

I think that Folex might be a good option for you for a number of reasons. But if you do a lot of upholstered interiors (I never did) I would sure head for my nearest janitorial supply company and pick up an upholstery specific cleaner. There is a reason that professional cleaners use them instead of an APC for upholstered furniture. One product I would highly recommend for carpets and upholstery is an all fiber rinse product. An additional benefit for me is that the company I use provides the occasional no cost training seminar (even a free lunch) and you get to visit with guys who are cleaning carpets and furniture everyday for a living, many who are more than willing to offer up free advice. And if you are really interested you might be able to pick up the equivalent to a CEU by attending a fee based seminar.

Great advice!! Thank you Mr.Clean. There is exactly such a place just across town that I've been considering visiting.:yourrock

Dave,
Someone above mentioned dampening a MF then scrubbing the problem spots on the headliner. That is what I also would recommend. Folex is a product that sometimes works wonders on things that other products wont get out, and sometimes it doesn't do so well for me. But it is something that you won't regret purchasing because it does come in handy quite a bit. I would just try wetting the MF with it on headliners as thats what I have always done and never had an issue yet.

Someone mind giving me a quick explanation on the best way to use Folex on carpets/seats? thx

You know I've found the best directions/explanations for poduct usage often comes from the manufacturer

Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover removes spots and stains

Comes with text and pictures.

Now after using the product per the manufacturer's directions and you have a specific question, I'm sure we can help with that.

Just thought some on here may have some different tips, and may want to share some of their own experiences. I've often found that sometimes it's best to ask someone who has actually used it before even when you read the directions. Different strokes for different folks. Thanks for your help.

I also wonder why you use the word "we", are you speaking for the entire board?

JMO, but it's kinda like asking someone for tips on using a carwash soap. It's a cleaning product, not a buffing tool or polish. Pretty rudimentary stuff.

Well, the entire board might not have experience with Folex so, no not the entire board, so the collective "we" in this case refers to those members who have used Folex.

Well I really like this stuff. I sprayed it directly on the carpets and mats and then scrubbed with my Cyclo with the white carpet brushes as I normally do then with the mats I used my pressure washer to rinse all the dirt out. On the carpets I did the same except no power washing, just spray scrub and vac. This stuff no doubt the best cleaner I have used on interiors to date. I only wish I'd have bought it years ago. Here's a few pics of the results.

Glad to see that the Folex worked for you Dave. I buy this stuff by the gallon and use it in the house as much as I do on details.
