Extracting With a Shop Vac

What kind of nozzle do you all use when you suck water up with a shop vac from carpets? I am having trouble getting water out of carpets with my 5 HP Rigid Shop Vac, but I think it is because I am using a bad nozzle.

To really get much of the moisture out you need an *extractor nozzle*, which has a *much* more narrow opening than normal "vacuum nozzles" (you want one with an opening of just a few mm, not wide enough for much solid dirt to go through).

Find a replacement nozzle made for Bissell or Hoover home/consumer-level extractors and DIY some means of attaching it to your Rigid (don't worry, it's pretty easy to figure something out).

I even use these on my Century extractor, which came with wide-opening nozzles that leave too much moisture behind. The narrow openings aren't as necessary with the Century, but they do still work a lot better.

Interesting. So something like this?

Or this?

Yeah, though both of those look like they have broader openings than the Bissell one that I like best.

Mine is from a "Big Green Machine", the old pn was 015-9154 and it was called a "small cleaning tool". IIRC that pn has been superseded, but that oughta be a good starting point.

Have you tried a crevice tool?

Still too wide an opening to really leave things very dry.

My Century came with a nice crevice tool (made for extraction and better suited than a "normal" crevice tool made for vacuuming) and while it's good for cleaning it still leaves too much moisture.
