Electric mowers

My experience in using these is VERY limited. I've sharpened the blade on a couple of electric mowers (not the one you've mentioned). I took them for a quick spin across the back lawn. My opinion was they didn't seem to have the power that would be required to cut a plush Kentucky Blue Grass lawn of any real size. Be very interested in hearing your experience should you get one.

Lolz.

I should have started a thread called "riding mowers". I need one soon - like in the next week. I have so much stuff to buy for the house - I can't spend a fortune.

I'm looking at a Troy Built that is like a grand. The reviews seem decent. I figure if I can fix a car - I can fix a mower.

But, I saw those rechargeable mowers at Hone Depot. May work out well if you only have a little bit of grass to cut.

For that kind of money I consider it a joke at best especially considering the cut time. That would cut 1/3 of my yard.

$600? That's Honda self propelled territory. Honda would last longer too. I guess if you didn't want to mess with the gas or fumes. If you were a girly man or hippie the electric would be perfect. . ..

Look at ordering a rear engine 30-32 in model. I had big 46 cut ride on before and the big rear tires would just matt down my grass took 2 days before it looked good after. My dad has rear engine 30' cut with much smaller tires and his lawn looks so much better when its done.

Electric Mowers - not ready for the big league yet - :)

I vote for the Honda Self Propelled at H/D for at least $100 less or more, it has a really nicely designed 4-cutters blade, you can switch from rear bag to mulch in a few seconds, and the cut it does is like perfect..

If you do like me and go over it again at 90 degrees from the initial cut, well, then you have any golf course green or ballfield infield grass... Perfectly flat and even... And yes, you Will cut some more grass off when you cut it again at 90 deg...

I don't even have that Honda myself but a friend has it and it has been perfect for 2+ years with not a problem one..

Good luck with your research -

Last year I finally went to a battery powered trimmer and I am very impressed with it. I bought the Ryobi 40v and wont ever mix gas and smell the fumes again.
On the other hand I mow with a John Deere 48" commercial walk behind and I am not so sure I would attempt to mow only about .005 acre with an electric 22" mower. lol

Currently have a 22" craftsman self propelled. And craftsman gas trimmer. Not looking to replace gas. Just noticing the electric technology is advancing. Now the neighbor (who is currently cutting) has a plug in electric! Makes the weirdest hum. LOL. But her grass area to cut is small. Did not really trade off grass cutting time here at the new place. Takes about a hour with the trimmimg.

My place takes about an hr with trimming as well and I own a plug in mower and trimmer. Basic ally no maintenance or gas fumes and oil/gas smell in my garage. Compact since the handle folds nicely for storage. My yard is a simple pattern with not too many things in the way, so the cords are no issue . I don't trust battery powered mowers yet, heard too many issues with battery life and basically having to plan before mowing by needing to charge batteries. With mine I just plug and go and finish right under an hr.

I have a gas powered mower, but battery powered trimmer. I have had my trimmer for 3 years and it is still going strong - honestly wouldn't change it out for a 2-cycle gas even if it dies.
