I stopped by the local paint supply store and picked up the Presta Edge green and yellow wool pads with velcro backing. I primed the green light cut pad with FP2 and tried a section. I found that combo didn't produce much cutting ability. I stepped up to ZPC and found that to be a nice product with the green pad and it left a nice finish on hard GM paint. I also tried HTEC (with a smidge of ZPC for better lubrication) and that combo worked well also. The green pad at 1400 rpm was easy to work with. It glided quite well and didn't hop, skip and jump. I also tried the yellow pad with the same products. It also produced nice results but I cranked the rpm's up a bit higher to roughly 2000 rpm. HTEC with wool finished down surprisingly nicely. I followed with a black polishing pad on a rotary with ZPC to remove any pad swirling and hollogramming. One thing that surprised me was that both pads didn't shed a lot. I'm not sure if it's a characteristic of the pads themselves or a result of using ZPC and HTEC both of which are a bit thick and may matt the fibers together more than thin polishes. Anyways both products work well but for optimum results I would always finish with a foam pad. Depending on the paint you probably will be able to do 2 steps-the green pad with a polish on rotary followed by a polishing pad by rotary or PC. If using a compound with the yellow pad 3 steps would probably produce the best results but in some cases 2 will work.
