So I bought a mint 2002 Passat Wagon GLX 4motion a couple weeks back. It was a one owner car with just over 40k miles. The only issue was that the owner (in his 60s) had a pinstripe and the first letter of his last name painted on the car. When I bought it, I figured it was a sticker like 99% of the cars out there only two discover that was not that case during it's first wash in my ownership.
I did a lot of googling and I obtained or purchased 100% acetone, lacquer thinner, Easy Off oven cleaner, and felt pads for a dremel.
The acetone barely touched the striped, lacquer thinner evaporated way too fast to do any real damage to the stripe, but the Easy Off oven cleaner MELTED the stripe away without hurting the original paint underneath at all! I have 5 packs of #414 felt tip Dremel pads if anyone wants them for free because that was plan D.
Simply spray the over cleaner on the stripe, wait 5 mins, and wipe away. It was that easy.
After initial removal:
No one could tell the stripe was every there. I did follow up with clay, M105/M205, and wax, but that was for good measure.
