Drying with 100% White Cotton T-Shirts?

Hi there,,,, New to the group. I've always been into keeping my cars paint as perfect as possible. I have always dried my cars with new 100% American cotton t-shirts. (the super soft kind you can get in a 6-pack from costco) NEVER towels. I've tried microfiber, but it's no where near as absorbant as white t-shirts. Is this a no-no?

Yes-yes, it is a no-no. Most people use a good quality WW Towel to dry with. If you get a small piece of dirt which didn't come off during the washing process, it will scratch your paint because the thin cotton t-shirts don't have enough nap to pull the dirt away from the surface. I can also guarantee the WW will be more absorbent.

Yeah, that's one nice ride :xyxthumbs

I've found that drying with WWMF is the way to go; even with the hard Audi clear cotton will cause marring. Maybe not *bad* marring, but it won't be perfect either. Also, you might want to check out my Wash Technique Thread which I came up with to pamper my Audi.

Thanks for all the great compliments, fellas.

Spilchy - Those are 235/35/19's on my A4. Believe it or not, the ride is great with my Stasis Coilovers.

Anyhoo,,, thanks for those articles. I am looking forward to trying out my new WW towels.

I'm nervous with tshirts on the paint. It won't soak up and dry like a terry cloth, and it could possibly mar or streak. However, if the tshirt is cotton it may not mar under normal use. Just make sure it doesn't have nylon or rayon in it, or else.

Tshirts are more useful in wheel polishing and finishing, at least to me.

I tried closing a spotlessly clean, well protected Audi trunklid with a nice, soft, 100% cotton Hanes t-shirt between my hand and the paint. Marred it :angry Not badly, but it was no longer perfect.

I won't even use very plush 100% cotton towels on my paint, now that there are better (i.e., softer) alternatives out there. Remember that the only way to remove marring is to remove paint, which is a non-renewable resource ;)

randomman84 - Are you interested in my wheels that I still have for sale? I have a set of 18" AUTHENTIC RS4 wheels for sale. MINT condition.

I also still have a set of brand new 18" Chrome Enkei Aegis (BBS Style) 3-piece wheels wrapped in new 235/40/18 shoes.

I'm asking $950 for the RS4's and $1500 for the Enkei combo. Both in mint condition. Long story why I have these rims for sale. I'm taking about a $1000 bath on the BBS Style rims. Longer story there...

Matt
