DG 105 vs. Collinite 845/476S

Alright, perhaps this is very bad question, considering there are many variables (type of car, type of paint), but have any of you guys tried both Collinite's carnauba waxes and Duragloss's sealants? I have some Collinite, but I'm looking to see whether the 105 sealants can provide a better shine. I'm looking first for durability, and second shine.

To make it clearer, let's make it DG601+DG105 vs. Collinite 845. All with proper prep (full polishing, claying) to make slim the variables down a bit. I'm curious about durability comparisons as well as "looks" comparisons.

I previously had shied away from using the DG system because it seems annoying having to layer with a 24 hour cure time. However, the more praise I read and the comments I see, the more I want to try it out. Also, I've had some issues having the Collinite last the 4-5 months that others have managed. Since I'm somewhat close (well, not really) to finishing my tub of Collinite 476S, I figured it might be time for a change. The prices are about the same, so the money won't be too much of a concern.

Thanks :)

i would suggest doing a side by side comparison and whichever one you like better remove the opposite. and take pics and show us. :)

I've used both alot. 105x2 + 476s is my winter combo. I've used both separately as well, and on a dark blue metallic, I much prefer the 105. Much more shine, great metallic pop. Honestly I found the durability about the same (1 layer vs 1 layer). But since you want 1 or the other, Id suggest the 105, if only to try something new.

Hopefully I'll be able to comment on this soon as I have some 105 coming in and I've used 845 in the past.

I really like 845 but I'm looking for something that sheds dirt better in winter and is more durable than FMJ in the summer. It seems like 105 is my year round solution...

VaSuperShine, I kinda doubt that the pictures will really make for an accurate comparison. But maybe I'll do half DG105 and half Collinite and compare at the very least, durability, if not looks.

grease, I didn't know that you could put Collinite on top of DG 105. Are there any bonding issues between the carnauba and the sealant?

I figured that the 105 might provide a better shine compared to the Collinite. I'll probably see for myself soon! I'm getting an order ready from AG. ONR+DG105+DG601 :)

I never had any problems with bonding. I found the 476s applied as easy on 105 as it does on naked paint. The only problem I had was getting the wax outta such a small diameter opening. :)

Im a big fan of both products.

I have used 105 ever since it was introduced and have also used Collinite 476S a while back. IMO, DG is FAR easier, actually seems to last longer, gives a much better shine, and seems more resistant to water and grime. I applied 476 once as a comparison to 105 and have not used 476 since...

I have actually been testing 105 with Zaino CS and am very impressed with the result. It's like a super-durability and shine combo. The CS on top of 105 locks in the shine and the durability/protection never seems to falter. I think it's probably the most durable combo I've ever used, which is saying a lot!

By how long do would you say does the 601 extend the protection offered by the 105? The website says double, but I don't think that's really possible :) About 6 months?

Also, in terms of versatility, can 105 be applied to vinyl/rubber trim like AW? Any staining?

No, it won't be double for sure. 601 will probably add a month or two, max, but it also depends on your conditions. My car is outside 24 x 7 and 105 holds up wonderfully. Yeah, probably 6 months give or take...

I do not apply 105 to rubber/vinyl and I don't think it is meant to be...AW is more versatile in that regard. The thicker 105 formula just doesn't lend to that type of application. I haven't noticed 105 has ever stained anything...

^^^ Ive used 105 on a variety of surfaces and its also landed on other surfaces and I havent had any staining with it either.

105/476s has been a potent winter combo for me.

mike,

i meant for your own benefit not for pictures sake. if you like the look/feel of one side better in person go with that combo/single app.

Mmhm, I know what you mean. I have my dad's friend's car to work on in the course of the next week, and I'll be doing just DG on it. However, on our own cars, when I get the chance, I'll probably do a comparison with 476S/DG105 left half/right half.
