Today I tied Meguires Deep Crystal Car wash soap. I bought a 1.89L (64 oz) bottler for $9.99 Canadian.

Pack: I liked the purple bottle, the lable was clear and clean, not over done but did not look bare. I liked the bottle and lable

Cost: Like I said it was a relitivly cheap soap at $9.99 can at Canadian Tire. I used 4oz of soap so it cost about 16cents per oz, or 62 cents a wash)

Smell: It smelled alright, I cant pinpoint the smell exaclty, but it smelled good. Nothing over powering or out of controll but very nice in the end

Consitancy: It was a pretty liquidy soap, not as thick as gold class but thicker then californa gold. I liked the thickness, it was easy to poor and use.

Directions: The bottle says to add 1oz of car soap per gallon of water used, I therefore used 4 oz as i was using aprox. 4 gallons of water. I followed the directions of addig the soap to the bucket then using the soap to foam.

Foaming ability: It had a ton of suds, I found it was very bublly, however we all know its not the bubbles, but the slickness thats important.Also the suds lasted for a long time, enough for me to wash, rinse, and dry the car.

Slickness: The slickness was similar to Megs gold class, nothing spectaculat but enough to do the job. Not even close to SSS or Adams (2 I have tried) however it was better then lots such as californa gold or Simoniz (the canadian stuff)

Results:It did a good job of cleaning off all the dirt. As i am OCD when it comes to my cars there wasnt alot of dirt in the first place, however I used it on a jag XK8 and had no problems with marring or scratching from the dirt. It seamed to work well esspecily for an otc product.

Overall thoughts: I liked this soap, it is a good priced soap for what you get. I would not recomend it over somthing like SSS (as they are in 2 diffrent classes) however I though it was just as good as Gold class but it was about $5 cheaper a bottle. I think this may be the soap i use when i need to get a large bottle when im bored. It will be good for cleaning the cars as they get done at least once a week and with 5 cars to do it takes alot. I think I will definlty purchase another bottle in the future

So theres my review on Deep Crystal wash. Any comments or questions would be greatly appricated. Also im sorry for any spelling errors not my stong suite but I think everything is legable. Thank you

I also like MDC. It can be had for about 3.49 locally and does sud nicely. The cars that i've used MDC on have never been really slick afterwards, but they all were clean. Can't beat this stuff for the price IMO.

Was the lack of slickness due to lack of regular maintenance, or is the Deep Crystal stripping wax? Thoughts?
 
You mean this stuff is better than DAWN???j/k

I've used both Gold Class and DC but notice very little difference in the two so I don't think GC is worth the extra $$$. As far as stripping the wax I have never had a problem w/it. After I wash my car I can still "see" and feel the wax on it.
 
Possibly leaving some sort of film behind? I am just curious as to why the finish wouldn't be slick. More than likely no sort of slickness to begin with. I never have a problem with slickness with any of the other soaps I have used, so I am really just wondering about it.
 
I just bought 2 bottles (64 oz. size) of this stuff at Pep Boys. They were selling it for $4.99 and there was a buy one get one free rebate. Also, apparently there was a coupon in their flyer from Sunday's paper that I could have also used to make it even cheaper but I didn't read the paper this Sunday. So, I didn't have the coupon.

I just bought it to use as a pre-wash with the foamer on my pressure washer. A gallon for $5 is pretty cheap. I'm totally sold on the PB's SS&S for the bucket wash.
 
Okay, newbie alert -what is SSS?

I use Griots and I've used others like Gold Class (which I didn't care for) and Griots just flat out knocks my socks off. Its the best I've used to date.
 
I find the Deep Crystal to be a little harsh on the finish..it seems to be more of a detergent than a mild shampoo..I got some last year and washed my truck..it had Natty's on for LSP and was nice and slick and shiny...after the wash it seemed to reduce the slickness and then when it rained the beads were not as tight as they were before the wash...so I believe it did remove some LSP ..I now use it for a boat wash ..it does good for that..

for OTC washes I found that the following are good for LSP's


1. Duragloss ..best OTC wash yet ..as good as Griots..I have both..Duragloss is half the price per gallon

2. Megs Goldclass...

3. Eagle1

4. NXT

5. Turtlewax Platinum wash..

not in this order..but the Duragloss is #1 of them all..try it and you be the judge

I think the Deep Crystal does take wax off at a decent rate. Since I switched from using the DC to Gold Class, I've noticed a brighter shine, more slickness, and the paint beads longer. I wasn't the only one to notice the difference either. I haven't used a lot of soaps, but after I went to GC, I knew I wouldn't use DC anymore. I gave the rest of the DC to my grandma's 77 year old friend. He has been using Dawn forever, so I figured this would be better than that.
 
I really don't get the issue of DC maybe stripping some wax off. I don't know about everyone else but I wash my cars at least once a week and top them off w/some Natty's Blue, EX-P, NXT, or sometimes I just use PB-SG. In my case I can't see a difference b/c I wax or seal every week. Doesn't everyone here top thier cars w/some sort of protection after every wash? I really can't see a DC member simply washing thier car and not topping it.

Nope. That's I would like some sort of durability out of my wax/sealant. If a car wash is stripping the wax, then it's a bad thing. There's other washes out there that won't strip wax so that I don't have to use a wax after every wash. Granted, I like to add wax/sealant as much as I can, but after every wash?

I don't . I wash about 3 times a week though. When using the DC, I probably should have been putting a new coat of wax on every week, but now since I stopped using it, I don't need to at all.
 
Wow, I'm surprised! I would think everyone tops their cars at least once a week but maybe that's a little too much for some. I know the condition of my paint does not require me to wax that often but I love waxing my car. Three times a week would be too many times for me but my once a week wash/wax has worked really well for me.

Well I always do something extra when I wash. Sometimes it's shampooing the carpets, sometimes it's cleaning and conditioning the leather, sometimes it's protecting the dash, and sometimes it's waxing. It really just depends what needs work the most. Since using GC over DC, I find that waxing isn't needed as often and therefore I do other things instead.

Most of the time I will thorw a coar of wax on however not always, for example the other day I had 5 cars to wash and it took a few hours, I was pretty tired after and didint feel like waxing.

As to the soap striping some wax off, I didnt really think of that when I did the review I will make sure to watch the next time I wash my car and see the results. I will make sure to keep everyone posted
 
I've been a long time MGC user and upon running out a few weeks back I was given some MDC. I wasn't too impressed to be honest. It was fair, but did not seem to provide the same sort of thick suds that GC does. It's been relegated to my wheel cleaning bucket here :)
 
IMO the DC wash isn't nearly as good as the GC or NXT wash! but NXT costs a little more than gold class (17.99 at napa)

I thought the Duragloss had some cleaners in it and that it might remove some of your LSP, or maybe I read it wrong on another board? I've tried a couple and honestly still use the Rain-X wash with carnauba beads in it, foamy and liquidy.

I'm thining about picking up some Duragloss Aqua Wax and their wash, saw some pics of AW over Natty's Blue (which I have) and it looked damn good.
