Countertop for detailing?

I just repurposed some bathroom cabinets in the garage. They will serve as the storage for supplies. They will eventually get painted, but I will need to make/purchase a countertop for them. Most of the premade ones that I can find are for kitchen cabinets, which I could cut down (too deep). I`m looking for other ideas on what I could make the countertop out of that would be waterproof and durable

Do they have some sort of top now? Or did they have a sink in the top?

I was looking at some recycled black HDPE sheet that they have at US Plastics, doesn`t seem crazy expensive, although their shipping is. Have you tried asking at HD or Lowe`s if they have some "remnant" countertop pieces that might fit?

They had sinks on them. Remnants is where I was gonna look next. I have some 3/4 inch treated plywood that I could cut down to fit.....and I guess paint and seal it....was looking for something a little nicer. I`m gonna have a look at Craigslist too

That HDPE seemed like a poor man`s Corian, that`s why I brought it up. You could get the 1/4" and put it down on top of your 3/4" ply with some flat head screws.

If I were doing it, I’d go with stainless steel countertops if there weren’t too much real estate as they are expensive. Easy to clean, tough, and look great.

What about something like the white laminated particle board then wrap it with a contact paper?

The laminated board would give a smooth surface for the contact paper, and the contact paper could serve to help keep the surface waterproof as well as let you pick something that matches your work area. I’ve seen people do full wraps of kitchen countertops, and I think as long as you keep hot stuff off it it’s supposed to hold up well.

Looks like you can also get big Formica sheets at Home Depot as another option.
