C'mon, People

PBMG went through all that work to update the forum software so that everything works better...and now no one is posting!

Agreed. Posted a few weeks ago but not much interest. I also check in every day but it seems like everyone has vanished.

Well I (Captain Obvious)am still here, but am not posting much myself. Just not used to the "new" software and format. Not the new owner's fault, just trying to learn how to use this website and its features.
Hope I am not overstepping my bounds, BUT I wonder how many feel that this forum has and sometimes is "dominated" by a few regular posters, including myself, and has become the "personal domain "of those posters, and hence, few other Autopia members and lurkers wish to post responses or even view the topics. Hope that is not the case, but it is a concern of mine as to why forum viewer traffic is less than it was before this forum makeover.
It is an extension of the adage "Familiarity breeds contempt."

I don't think it has anything to do with you or me or whoever, Lonnie, I think a lot of occasional users who came here when the forum was down figured it was gone for good and haven't come back...yet. Plus it's not detailing season, although there hasn't been as much seasonality on the forums in recent years.

It could be the time of year. As fall and winter approaches detailing takes a back seat until spring in some areas.

Some of you Autopians may have read my original post and with highly-respected Autopian moderator/admin GearHead1's response below, I deleted it. Basically the "Cliff Notes" version was that with the current state of the economy, my guess was that less American consumers are spending their discretionary financial resources on detailing related items and activities, and hence, have less (or nothing) to say about detailing and their experiences.
I will leave it go at that....

I do think that if there are less and less new topic discussions and posting responses by the detailing community here in this forum, it is a self-fulfilling consequence of its downward trend and I understand Setec's admonishment for current Autopians to continue with their posts of new topic discussions, reviews, and responses within topics, and for lurkers to become members and start posting about their detailing questions and experiences, but it is kind of hard to respond if there is nothing to respond to. (Then they wonder why I am called Captain Obvious!)

Young folk don't care about detailing their car (if they even own one), much less doing this type of work for a living.
The ones who do typically use facebook to gather information

Lonnie, although I appreciate there may be economic factors involved, some of this is a generational shift (as bad penny noted about younger people being less likely to own or care about a vehicle, and more likely to use social media than forums), but also just a societal shift away from this type of interaction, regardless of age.

Certainly on AutoGeekOnline, which is also owned by PBMG and is somewhat more active than this forum, there doesn't seem to be any reticence to spend money on detailing supplies. I think that forum benefited from a sustained marketing presence under the previous ownership of PBMG, which they didn't do for this forum after they acquired it. That resulted in more active members, and therefore more active members today.

I think that most of the people on both forums visit for a sense of nostalgic comradery, although there are enough people on the other forum to still get some product/ technique info/feedback.

Yes, Setec, I am guilty of doing just that and I tend to look back and reminisce about past detailing products, older Autopians who have past on, and just "the good ol' days" of this forum.
To some newer members or lurkers, that just is not relevant nor interesting.
Does it mean I will change my posting on that older stuff? NO, because it is important to me, and the Autopians behind it are even moreso important.
Sometimes we just get old together!
