Can I use rubbing alcohol in place of 3M adhesion promoter?

As an aside, I logged in to this: Last visit: 08-22-06 at 05:12... guess I should stop by more often.

So here's the deal. I've got a stainless rocker trim kit for my 08 Dodge Ram. I waxed the truck not that long ago (NXT2.0) so the paint is glossy and water beads off real nice.

Problem is I need to get that wax, tar, etc stripped off like crazy before putting on the trim pieces. The trim is backed by 3M acrylic foam on the entire backside. I've bought some DupliColor Wax & Grease Remover and will do the following:

- Wash truck with regular dishsoap to start stripping off the wax, dry

- Use Wax/Grease remover by hand to remove everything off the surfaces where the 3M tape and trim is to be installed

The thing is I now hear about adhesion promoter and was thinking that it would be a good idea to lay some of that down prior to putting the trim on. I can't find it locally and don't really want to order and wait for it, so the big question is Can I use rubbing alcohol as an adhesion promoter prior to installing the trim?

I'm thinking if that won't work I'll just install the trim without the adhesion promoter.

Thoughts, comments welcome. Thanks.

No, you want the area clean. Use the Wax and Grease remover. Adhesion promoter is used when painting plastic parts.

Do not use alcohol.. I have tried using it and it did not work at all.. Some of my auto parts have been damaged because of it.. It is not a replacement for adhesion promoter either.
