Best way to strip chrome.

I am looking at a set of new wheels that I would like to buy, they are beat to crap and are chrome with peeling parts. My plan was to strip the chrome and powdercoat them. With that being said, what is the best way to strip chrome? Would sand blasting do it?

Thanks all for the look.

I would talk to a wheel refinishing service. However sand or other media blasting will definitely remove it. (there may be pitting if you use the wrong type of media...hence the first sentence)

Find a local chrome shop that can dip them or send them to one. Chrome is much harder than aluminum, so by the time you media blast through it, you'll pretty much destroy the surface underneath. Getting them simply dipped shouldn't be too expensive. Most of the cost of chroming is in the prep work.

You need to find a plater to strip them. Sometimes plating places do powdercoating, or it may be that the powdercoating place can strip them.

The cost depends on the quality of work you want done and who does it. Save your self the time and skin on your fingers and pay someone. I work at a shop and we sometimes color match wheels and it is no fun!:wall
