Best wax/sealant for new red paint?

Hey guys! i hate to make a thread for this, but after searching i am just not satisfied with my finds. i painted my s13 one month ago. the paint has been curing for a month and is time for me to finally start taking care of the paint. i have never owned a red car.



what wax or sealant do you recommend on a red car? i am not sure which i want. i basically want whatever will make the car look best, and not what will last the longest (though if it lasts long that is cool too :heh:)



the color is ppg bmw crimson red. paint code a61. its a 2 stage solid red.



lasting ability: doesnt matter as much. the longer the better

price: not too concerned with, but within reason. car is used for drifting and daily driving so it experiences all the elements

what i want out of it: i want the red paint to have the wet deep glossy look, but i also want the red to really pop and give off a vibrant feel.



so far i have considered:



chemical guys jet seal

black diamond wet diamond

pinnacle souveran

various dodo's

and a few others



and i plan to wash, clay, use P21S Paintwork Cleanser, wax/seal, and then use Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical Protection Detailer

thank you sooooo much. i truely appreciate any advise on any products or steps i can take to take care of my ps13.

I use BFWD and collinite 845 on my radiant red 08 tacoma and they both look great. BFWD has more of glossier look and lasts about 2-3 months (Depending on many factors) where as the 845 has more of a warmth look and lasts 4-5 months (again depending on many factors)so its gonna be personal preference in the end. Just a side note, i would make sure i asked whoever painted your car how long you should what before applying a wax/selant as most recommend 60 to 90 days for total curing.
 
Be sure the paint is clean. P21S should be ok. Then BFWD or my favorite HD POXY. Top with Souveran and you will have a awesome look. HD POLISH is another option for cleaning. And Dan's 50/50 would work very well. My RX8 is red and I love to detail it.
 
I will say that HD NITRO SEAL will look better than the above mentioned products. All nice btw, but if you want the most pop and deep gloss, NITRO SEAL is the product. Durability is also superior to the the other products.

That 90 days (minimum) what I always do, no matter what the painter says. I've seen some pretty dramatic hardening take place around month-2 or so even with baked/catalyzed paints.

I've seen and worked on paints that didn't fully harden until almost a year later, so 90 days I'd say in a good base to go by.
 
thanks a lot everyone. i am looking into the hd nitro seal. if i use that, so do i still use P21S Paintwork Cleanser under it? i heard it has to bond directly to the paint. also would using a carnuba wax like dodo's supernatural over nitro seal make a difference?
 
you want to have a clean paint. Meaning wash, clay, polish and Nitro Seal. To be sure, I'd do an IPA wipe real quick.



Honestly, once you see how Nitro seal looks, you don't want to mute that shine. But it is of course up to you. You can put the dodo on top. Wait a day or so.

cg maxi suds, pinnacle ultra poly clay bar, p21s paintwork cleaner, ipa wipe 50/50, hd nitro seal, and dodo juice red mist. i may go with cg pete's 53 on top of nitro seal but i'll decide after i use nitro seal.

Still needs to sit a bit. I went back over the tires and polished the muffler and tip while letting it set up.
 
I was informed by Dr. G that both OCW and OS are safe for fresh paint, and have heard this from other reputable sources. I also called PPG last week for a client who was given bad info from his paint supplier. Their tech guy told me 90 days before waxing/sealing, but he might not be familiar with Optimum products and was giving their standard answer. Maybe just stick with OCW until the 90 days has gone by?

hmmm my painter told my 30 days..... maybe i'll just wait 60 days then. i dont like driving around with no protection



also can anyone suggest any polish i can use as paint correction on new paint and something for a car from 2008 with all original paint thats a little dull? i am going to pick up a porter cable but i have never used a da before
 
My Porsche restoration painter (he uses PPG) told me 30 days on a panel(s) that he personally paints.
 
Yeah, last I heard Ford had approved OCW for use on post-production paintwork. I'm *almost* tempted to use that on the freshly painted A8 bumpercover. Almost but...nah :grinno: I'm sticking to my Meguiar's New Car Glaze.

Some glazes offer a bit of protection. I can't recall ever having problems when I used M05 or 3M IHG, but it's not like they'll hold up to bird bombs or anything like that.

I'd sure pick a different polisher (Griot's or Meguiar's or 3D/HD)...but as for the polish, you might need something different for the two applications as the fresh paint might be softer until it cures. The short answer these days is probably Uno and the 3D/HD finishing polish, but OTC stuff like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish work OK too.
