I am talking about places like merchant circle, local.com, automotive.com, local.411.com etc. What are yalls favorite to put your business up on? I am trying to list my business on every site I can so I can get the most exposure possible.

1st step should be signing up on the business directories on Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Yellowpages. Besides that, I really haven't done much else. Any "online directory" that charges you for an ad is a sham, IMO.

google's pay per click with jump your traffic to your site like non other. My friend does ecommerce sites and swears by it!

I have a few methods that I've used over the year to OWN locals markets on the search engines. Other than SEO that I've been successful with.... I will share a method that is underutilized: FACEBOOK.

Facebook is a marketers dream as the demographics you can target are laser focused. Great ad titles / copy, a great before and after pic, cheap traffic, and you're good to go!

In addition to getting listed on local internet listings (newspapers, directories etc.) make profiles on Facebook and Twitter. It takes time and some effort, but it is well worth it in the long run.

Got a Facebook profile for my business, have had it for a year or so now. Gotten me a grand total of 0 customers lol.

Well, sorry to hear that. You may be not using it correctly. Do you have a fan page (business), or just a personal page. With a fan page dedicated to your business they send you a weekly email about visits to your page etc. With social media, it is important to create content that makes people want to view your pages and your website; such as blog articles, pictures, videos, etc. You may also want to set up a Twitter account as well. It all takes time, and in the long run it should drive traffic to your site. If done correctly it will help your SEO as well.

Its a fan page, and its set up correctly. Just not quite the right demographic for me. 18-22yr olds seem to have less money than my normal crowd of 25-50.

I use Merchant Circles Free account, What I did was used the Reviews part and linked it to my Website. I made sure to have customers leave reviews and it has boosted my relevancy online. Here in Richmond everyone uses google or some search engine to find pretty much anything. I have had a lot of jobs just from people searching, liking my website and scheduling an appointment. Free advertising is great, it just takes a while to build up.
