Ayrton Senna Movie, finally!

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the newbie question but there is so much info here I had a hard time getting through it all.

I have a 95 Speed Yellow 993 and my wife has a 99 Silver MB 230K. I do all car maintenance by hand. I recently used the clay bar, 3M Imperial Hand Galze and Yellow #26 paste wax on the MB and it still looks great. I am not so worried about her car though.

As much as I hate to admit it, on my car I have not done a full blown treatment. If you don't know, the 95 cars do not have clear coat. I track the car a lot and therefore end up using a ton of cleaner wax on it to get the rubber marks off etc... The car probalby has a fresh coat of this Meguires cleaner wax on it once every 6 weeks.

Here is my question. The car has a lot of miles and a lot of the info here is dedicated to dark color cars. Should I continue with what I am doing? Should I start over with the same treatment as that I did on the MB? Or should I start from scratch with a Blacfire or Zaino treatment. I am really looking for protection at this point. And I will say after a wash and wax treatment, the car does look pretty good - although probably not to any of your guy's standards. ;)

Thanx for the help.

EJ,

For maximum protection and durability I would go with a synthetic product like Klasse, Zaino or Blackfire. The Klasse and Blackfire systems have cleaning abilities, but Zaino does not so if you go that way make sure you give the car a good polish job first. A true show winning shine is not in the protectant though, 90% of it's in the prep work.

Any of the 3 systems will equal or exceed the look of your current car care program and give you greater durability. :up

P.S- The 95 993 is a sweet ride, they look great in speed yellow too. :)

Zaino does offer a product, however, that was designed for use on non clear coated cars only. It is called Z3. Check it out on their web site. Once the car is cleaned and zaino applied, I think you will find that it will clean up much easier using just car wash than your current rountine.

Zaino looks awesome on yellow

ya get the Z3, I think that you will be very hapy with it. There is a car in my car club that has no clear, he uses Z3 and it looks, feels great! Here is a pic at last years world of wheels car show....

Hey E.J., awesome car! While Zaino does look good on cars, don't count out other options. Klasse and Blackfire are also excellent choices (I have not used BF). Blackfire would probably be the easiest polymer to use, with the easy application of only 2 products and the virtually instant curing time. It also has a car wash and all that jazz if you can afford to go all out.

You can search for reviews of Zaino, Klasse and Blackfire (more recent ones here), but the bottom line is you can't go wrong with any of these.

Hey guys, Thanx for the help. I think I am going to try the blackfire. A few follow up questions:

1. Where is the best place to buy

2. Should I get Steve's towels for all applications and removing? I have never used a MF towel.

3. Is hand application okay, or do I need to get the PC?

4. Will these type of polymer products make after track clean up easier ie. will the surface remain slicker than my current cleaner wax?

5. Can I use and apply this stuff in the garage if its cold outside?

That is all I can think of for now. Thanx again for the help. THis board is proving to be a great source of info.

PS - That yellow vette looks great with the polymer - you need to get it on the track. :D

1. The best (and only) place to get Blackfire is from CMA (forum sponsor).

2. Yes, get the microfiber... the only thing rubbing against your paint should be microfiber ;)

3. I applied Blackfire by hand to my 2002 Subaru WRX and it looks awesome... I'm going to try applying it with an orbital today on my black Alfa... I'll let you know how it comes out.

4. From my experience I would say YES, the polymer based protectant will hold up better to the nasty things that get on your car at the track. I would guess that a Caranuba wouldn't hold up as well when being bombarded by oil, tar, rubber, etc.

5. Just watch out for the humidity... if it's humid you will have a hell of a time removing the Blackfire haze!

1. Where is the best place to buy
<em class='bbc'>The only place to obtain Blackfire is CMA[/i]
www.properautocare.com

2. Should I get Steve's towels for all applications and removing? I have never used a MF towel.
<em class='bbc'>I'd definitely get some of Steve's towels for removal and other polishing/cleaning, like glass. But I prefer foam pads for application. CMA offers several types but I really like the Eagle One X-Press IT applicators. They fit perfectly into your hand and are just the right size. While you are ordering get some of the E1 Finger Pockets for wheel detailing and Tire Swipes for dressing application.[/i]

3. Is hand application okay, or do I need to get the PC?
<em class='bbc'>I don't think you need a PC but it sure is nice to have. Many of us have PC's with CMA's accessory kit which is a great starting point.[/i]

4. Will these type of polymer products make after track clean up easier ie. will the surface remain slicker than my current cleaner wax?
<em class='bbc'>Well, one of the effects of BF is that it's not too slick. You may want to top the BF with a pure carnauba wax to add some slickness.[/i]

5. Can I use and apply this stuff in the garage if its cold outside?
<em class='bbc'>Absolutely. That's how I apply my BF; it's in the 40s here in GA now but about 60 in the garage. No problem for BF.[/i]

Blackfire does indeed sound the most interesting of the 3 product lines. And don't forget that it offers zero curing time. This means that you can apply 2 or 3 coats, one after another, with no waiting required. That is a great benefit and you DON'T have to pay for a specialized product to help it cure faster.

No....but you STILL need to buy 2 products..............

Thanx for all the help guys. Looks like I am going to try and mimic the King's yellow vette with my yellow car and go for the Zaino. It will be a little while yet (car is in shop getting roll bar etc...) but I will post results.

Great Forum.

DK, you don't have to buy two products with Blackfire. However, it would be a good idea to use a polish on older or slightly neglected cars. Same thing with Zaino. You may very well have to use Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion, 3M SMR, etc.. BEFORE you use your Zaino. And then you STILL HAVE TO BUY the Zaino ZFX. Laters
