Auto shampoo for boat?

Am I going to be contaminating my lake if I wash my boat with Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo while it is on the lift at the lake?
For 30 years, I have only used lake water, but since most shampoos are biodegradeable, I thought I might use one.
Since I only use about an ounce in 3 gallons of water, it can't be too bad.

the marinas we work at have no trouble with the boats being washed with biodegradable soaps while in the slips and they are closely watched by the EPA here in texas, so i am hoping we are hurting the lakes

A little soap never hurt anything. Besides soap is nothing compared to what else goes in the lake.
I agree. Unless the lake only permits sail or electric motor only, powerboats are putting alot of oil that is slowy being put into the lake.

yes, and the soaps helps break down the oils :)

Meguiar's makes a soap specifically for boats called Boat Wash, Meguiar’s #54, Wolfgang Auto Bathe, Poorboy's and Optimum Car Wash are all biodegradable as well. :)

There seems to be some debate on whether being biodegradeable also means evirontmentally safe.
I finally did what I probably should of done in the first place.:ass
Since I use Meguiar's Gold Class and buy it by the gallons, I called Meguiar's and asked them.
The rep said the Gold Class was environmentally safe, but one of their boat specific products might do a better job of cleaning.
Since I rarely do a bucket wash anymore, (Poorboy's S&W), I have waaaay more Gold Class on hand than I need for my vehicles. That's one reason I wanted to use it on the boat.

Well, since you're doing the washing on the lake then the main concern was water contamination, no? If the rep says it's not going to harm the water, and you have alot of product on hand if I were in your place I would use up what I had and then buy the Boat Wash when I ran out. Just my 2 cents.

I think that sounds like a great idea.
Of course, anytime someone agrees with me, I think it's a gteat idea.:)

We use some stuff when boats are dry docked that when we spray it out of the bottle, it literaly smokes. a cloud hangs around for awhile before it drifts off. Guess what the bottle says, Biodegradable.

But anyway, we wash about 30 to 40 boats a week, all using marine soap. I see no difference in whats in the automotive and the marine soap. Atleast not contaminite wise. Heck, I bet alot of the soap you use on your car or cars in that area get washed into the drink anyway.

I would have to agree.
