Auto Finesse Avalanche - foam cannon

Bunky

Detailing Gnosis
I had ordered some Auto Finesse Avalanche during the holiday sales and finally with 56 F weather and no rain, I got a chance to use it.

Note: In above image, Lightroom cheat - I was washing in the shade and ended up burning in the background crudely to get a more even looking image.

This shows how it drips off in spots. I am not sure 100% sure if it is just coverage.

Kranzle 1400 psi / 2GPM + Cam Spray Foam Cannon: ~3 oz Avalanche / 12 oz water (yes it has a small reservoir)

Cleaning: Very Good maybe Excellent, did not really think I needed to do a bucket wash

Foam: Very good but different but takes really two coats to get even coverage. It is not really shaving cream but frothy

Stickiness: Very good (Honeydew was better in this test)

Rinsing: Very Good (better than Honeydew)

Scent: zesty cleaner - sorta like P21s TAW

Avalanche seems to behave a little different than a traditional soap but then it is supposedly not like a traditional soap.

When I sprayed it did not fill like soap seems to do but can leave tracers likely caused by the foam cannon spray pattern. It really took two coats to get a really nice even coverage. It was only when I put the second coat did it really start drizzling off.

For extra credit, I decided to "calibrate" my foam cannon. After several timed tests and measuring the results (in bucket, left in foam cannon), I determine the PW's output was 2.2 GPM. The foam cannon pulled 10 ounces from the reservoir at max setting so now I can start calculating the actual dilution ratios! I figure I was using Avalanche around 200:1 ratio.

Cool write up

So would ya buy it again?

Avalanche - yes.

The pressure washer - yes, the foam cannon - likely not - at least want to try the MTM. I have a gas pressure washer too (2700psi) but overkill on cars. Electric is easier to deal with -- as long as you are near an outlet. Quiet, no oil to change or choke, plus it can run in bypass forever, pull from a static source if needed, compact.

I do not know about the MTM but the Cam Spray foam cannon reservoir neck thread is the same as detailing bottle so if I get a longer hose I can have different "formulas" pre-mixed .

Great write up Al.....Seen and heard good things about Avalanche ...believe it or not...I dont even own a Foam Cannon...although I plan to...just never bought into that foam cannons were real effective for cleaning...but more pleasing to the eye...I'm sure they do loosen up dirt...be great if you could just foam a rinse and get the same results as a hand wash

Nice Al.

I have wondered and wanted to try Avalanche but never pulled the trigger due to having so many other soaps.

The next time I will do a more controlled experiment to see how well bonded stuff is softened or removed.

Also, after the wash there was no beading but paint felt slick. I ended up topping it with Pinnacle XMT Spray Wax anyway as a booster.

Al....hopefully you didn't think I was disrespecting you...that was not my intention nor is that my style....that bothered me after I posted it.....got too much respect for you to come off abrasive.....

No offense taken. I always thought foam guns and foam cannons were half entertainment, half practical. Now that I found something that seems to clean and had used APC in a foam gun, they can be fortified to be more effective cleaners. If you have a pressure washer, using a few more ounces of soap is not a bad thing plus when I foam I may just rinse, foam, then go to my favorite 2BM wash method.

Great write up! Question for you... What do you think regarding using this soap in a foam gun rather than foam cannon (non pressure wash). I think that it was designed for the cannon, but since it is such a good cleaning soap, I was thinking about picking it up anyways.

What do you think?

Its a great cleaner foam. The UK guys seem to have some very good presoak products such as this stuff. I can say on my own car it will take off 95% of the bad stuff off your paint before you ever touch it. I'm talking western NY salt, sand from road sanders, and anything else sitting on the paint.

Most of these UK presoak foams are watered down APCs with long foaming dwell times. We have many snow foam products in this country but they don't seem to have the chemical cleaning ability as the UK products.
