Anyone use the Chenille Wash Mitts from Target?

JaCkaL829

it was my first time...
I was in Target the other night with my parents and while checking out the Automotive section noticed a couple different kinds of Chenille wash mitts. I want to know what kind of results you guys got when using their Chenille wash mitts. I am not talking about the Baja Sol brand chenille wash mitts but another one. I really didn't catch a brand name on it, the label had a girl using the mitt on a blue wrx if that helps? Anyway they seemed a little nicer then the Baja Sol ones and cost 5.77 a pair which seemed good. I'm considering them for a little detailing kit for my cousin and would like to know your opinions/comments on these? Do they shed really bad? I don't want to get him something that will swirl or mess up his finish so though i'd ask here beforehand.

Thanks in Advance!

I was doing a search for the Target MFs just now and realized the brand of Chenille Wash Mitts I was talking about above is called Concordia. I recognized the same packaging on the MFs as the Chenille Wash Mitts.

I have this mitt and I use it for my wheels. I did notice that they shed when washed. Why not buy him a sheepskin mitt at either Target or Walmart.

If shedding is a problem I guess I should just buy some sheepskins from costco. Mine are holding up pretty good.

Stay away from them and stick with sheepskin. If you pull out a strand and burn it, it melts into a black, hard ball - it ain't cotton!

Spilchy makes a great point, but ruins it by being a wool elitist. :D

Cotton is the most important word to look for when getting a chinille mitt. I've used a chinille covered sponge from Target that was 100% cotton and it worked fine. Yes, it sheds at first. So just wash it.

I will warn you away from the Black Magic brand of chinille, as it's crap. I'm using, I think, Viking now. Good mitt. Seems to shed less at first. But I really prefer a chinille covered sponge to a mitt.

I don't dislike wool because I think it's inferior, far from it. I just don't like it. It's freaky and unwashable.

Who says you cant wash a wool mitt?

I wash mine all the time, I do use the gentle cycle and then 5 mins on the low setting in the dryer. They come out like new

I would stay away from these. I bought some and they shed like crazy. I also echo Postwood's comments on Black Magic-also crap quality and heavy shedding.

I use Sheepskin from Costco - $8 for 4! and have been very happy with the results. I just placed an order on the Aussie Mitt from Detailer's Paradise and I look forward to seeing what $17 gets me there. :)

I believe that Viking mitts are all cotton. It seems to me that I remember something about the Viking manufacturer being something like our Steve.....a guy who appreciates and knows about detailing and who tries his very best to make only quality products.

As has been said if you burn a thread of the mitt and it acts like plastic....then it's "plastic", synthetic, and you don't want it.

I would use cotton but I prefer lambskin. Check for hide on the inside.

Personally, I am a major fan of mf...I have an mf mitt from CMA that's held up well for about 2 years and I just got one from PakShak that I also like. The quality of the mf is about the same, but the only difference is that the one from Pak is unpadded. Which is better is up for debate.

I also have a sheepskin mitt from Griot's Gararge that's approaching 3 years in age. It's still in mint condition after all that use. I wash it in the washer occassionally, then pop it in the dryer (low/no heat) for a while to dry the pile. I then turn it inside-out until the skin is mostly dry (but still flexible) and then turn it right-side out again to completely dry.

It has a "locker loop" that I use to hang it from a clothes hanger. Works great! One advantage to sheepskin is that it tends not to grab ahold of bug guts and grit the way mf can. With mf you have to be aware of that.

I like the ones they use to have. They new ones are way too big, IMO. They shed initially, but once you wash them, they are fine.

There are two types of VIKING Chenille Mitts:

VIKING Supersoft Chenille ~ White cuff = Synthetic pile

VIKING 100% Cotton Chenille ~ Blue cuff & Cotton Logo = 100% cotton pile

**Remember the word chenille is just a term for a knitting process.

Also, I am working on the shedding issue and I think I may almost be there with a new entry in the natural fiber arena.......
