Mother's, Meguiars, 3M, Poorboys, Zaino, Klasse, Finish Kare, Sonus etc. will all look VERY similar on

a well prepared car.

The differences I have noticed are negligible in appearance and only a very seasoned

car guy can tell the difference. A shiny car is a shiny car. If I prepared 5 cars with each of the leading polishes and wax lines I doubt most on this forum (who know a thing or two) could correctly match the car with the product.

The real differences come in price, ease of use and durability.

Over the counter stuff will give you a great result for a low price (somewhat) but require more elbow grease and don't last as long as the more concentrated premium mail order brands.

Well gee, if you're going to start philosophizing or globalizing on a whole new level, then yeah, you're right! In fact, you can give this response to just about any thread here that asks about a certain product. Yes, your final shine will only be as good as your prep work... I guess it's good to remind us all of that every once in a while.....

Mothers products are excellent, their waxes are great and their wheel cleaners, tire care, leather care, chrome and plastic polishes are among the best at any price.

love the smell of their 'one step cleaner wax paste,,,, cherry cherry!

mothers is good stuff. just doesnt get the attn it deserves, as some get all caught up in the 'boutique' crap thats out there.

just because its widely available to the consumer, doesnt mean its automatically inferior.

I have the Mother's 3 phase system, the Meguiars Deep Crystal system, Meguir's NXT, Meguairs Professional and Detailer lines of products, Sonus products, 3M products, Liquid Glass, Wax Shop products, CAR products detailing chemicals and other assorted clays, cleaners, polishes, waxes and sealants.

It all depends on the color of the car or truck I am detailing, and 99% of making the vehicle look fantastic is in the preparation for applying the LSP. :xyxthumbs

I have tried both the Synwax FX, FX Spray wax, and the new Reflections Spray Wax.

I think all 3 are excellent. I went through an entire Minnesota winter with 2 coats of FX

with a couple of FX spray wax boosters (car was washed about 4 times in a touchless place).

As late as this May, the surface was still very slick to the touch and was beading well.

The FX look is blindingly clear and very shiny.

I tried Reflections just last week so can't comment on durability, but its look is

different than FX...warmer, deeper. Very nice also.

Mothers is a very dependable and consistent line of detailing products. Their paint cleaners and hand polishes are very good otc products for convenience and quick results. They offer a good start point for beginning enthusiasts. I would use their products as a starting point to determine where I would want to go in terms of growth in choosing a method of detail (for example, carnauba based products or synthetics).

From the pics, however, the GTO is a very well done example. Very respectable results!

I don't think this generalization is accurate. For example, find me a LSP that's easier to apply and remove as Reflections.

and don't last as long as the more concentrated premium mail order brands.
Again, this is an inaccurate generalization. Some "premium" brands have great looks but poor durability, eg, Souveran (which I love). In my experience, something like Reflections easily outlasts Souveran.

You're doing no-one any favours by making the above statements. That may have been the case in the past, but its no longer the case.

The truth is, OTC products have come of age. They can be as good as, or as bad as, most Boutique product out there. And they cost less.
