Another reason not to let the dealer wash your car.

These are the pics from a dealer loaner.

What do you think caused brake calipers to look like that?

I suspect some strong acid cleaner.

THat acid based stuff is horrible. I used to have to use it when I worked at a volvo delaership. I remember that smell god it was aweful stuff. Is the stuff really that much more potent than the citric acid cleaners?

I think those acid based cleaners are stronger than anything else.

The old EO A2Z was stronger IMO than the new alkaline formula. I didn't use it often enough to cause any damage.

I made sure my service advisor wrote and highlited "DO NOT WASH" on the order. We'll see...

I used to have an Acura Integra Type R with these godawfully expensive wheels made by Mugen that had a beautiful annodized bronze finish.

Dealer hit them with some of that acid cleaner, which must've been left on for a while, and burned right through that finish. Left all of these awful looking "drips" that went right through to the metal. I didn't notice until I got home. :scared I can't remeber the last time I was so pissed.

Needless to say, the dealer bought me a new set of wheel$.

I really like the Eagle One Aluminum Wheel Cleaner, their only one without any acids. Seems to make painted aluminun rims show the metallic flakes more and sparkle.

I believe E1 has a new A2Z wheel cleaner (I think it is orange) which is now alkaline. I am trying to decide whether to get the A2Z or spend a bit more on S100(P21S) wheel cleaner at the Harley dealership.

I just washed my new car and wheels with Z7 and holy smokes, the front wheels were just full of brake dust. And I thought German cars were bad for brake dust. Man was it grungy! I couldn't reach way inside the wheel to get it all as the brakes were in the way. I think I will have to go buy a wheel brush too.

Anyone know of a good wheel brush? We can't get OXO brushes up in Canada. Are those Detailer's choice or Simoniz brushes safe for the wheels? Maybe I'll go look at what Meguiar's has to offer in way of wheel brushes.

My first thought seeing this was:
