Another FK425 Comparison to Spray Wax (DG Aquawax)

Hi all,
As a continuation of the test I did here: http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums...891-test-beading-properties-fk425-vs-uqw.html
..now I'm comparing FK425 to Duragloss Aquawax. That last test was more of a test failure than anything, because I could not get the products to bead for more than 24 hours! What I learned was that spray wax (or QDs with wax) do not last anytime at all (insofar as protection) while driving in the insanely hot Florida sun, combined with hard rains. However, the good looks and slickness seem to carry on longer so they are still worth using, especially as a spit shine and drying aid.

This time, I had the luxury of not moving the car. It stayed outside, still very hot, but under some amount of shade from trees. Also, since this is a hood application, not driving is a big factor on keeping the heat down.

Under these conditions, the FK425 is still beading after two days. Aquawax even more so.

Here's the difference in bead formation (two days in):

I call this a win for DG over FK.

I didn't take any before pictures because the two sides looked the same captured in digital bits, but in "real life", I gave a narrow win to the Duragloss product. The Aquawax had better optical clarity to my eyes.

Prices (on Autopia):
DG Aquawax: $0.454 per oz
FK 425: $0.516 per oz

Duragloss for the win so far. Since I use use both products only on a clean or just-washed car, I'll be sticking with Aquawax when my 425 runs out. Another advantage is that it's available locally, so no shipping, which seals the deal.

I'll test beading again in a day or two.

Interesting test.

I have never used KF425 for its protection or beading; only for its ultra slick finish and gloss. It nice to see there is a little more to it.

I tried the FK stuff a few years back when they had a sampler pack going. I wish all company's would do that. I have to say though that I didn't find any of their products to be "keepers". They were ok, except for one sealer I tried, that stuff sucked. 425 was no better than a QD I could buy locally at a Majestic.
Aquawax is great (IMHO) just the smell of that stuff is worth the price of admission.

I with Troy on this as well. I find FK425 to be an excellent QD. I never use it for protection purposes but it's nice to see that something may left behind. If I need an LSP boost I always reach for a spray wax.

I don't think they compare at all. Aquawax is a spray on sealant, FK425 is a simple quick detailer. Both add bling and slickness but AW is aimed more at durability where 425 has no such intentions.....just short term bling.

I respectfully disagree that FK425 is a simple QD. The first bullet on the back if the label reads:
"Cleans and waxes metal, glass, and painted surfaces".
If we lob all QD with wax into one bunch, then 425 is a simple QD, with wax.
Granted, Aquawax is a purpose-built spray wax and Not a QD of any kind. The point was, with this test and the original, was to see if 425 can hang with the spray waxes in the capacity that one might use a spray (of any kind) on a clean car.
