Hi all,
As a continuation of the test I did here: http://www.autopiaforums.com/forums...891-test-beading-properties-fk425-vs-uqw.html
..now I'm comparing FK425 to Duragloss Aquawax. That last test was more of a test failure than anything, because I could not get the products to bead for more than 24 hours! What I learned was that spray wax (or QDs with wax) do not last anytime at all (insofar as protection) while driving in the insanely hot Florida sun, combined with hard rains. However, the good looks and slickness seem to carry on longer so they are still worth using, especially as a spit shine and drying aid.
This time, I had the luxury of not moving the car. It stayed outside, still very hot, but under some amount of shade from trees. Also, since this is a hood application, not driving is a big factor on keeping the heat down.
Under these conditions, the FK425 is still beading after two days. Aquawax even more so.
Here's the difference in bead formation (two days in):
I call this a win for DG over FK.
I didn't take any before pictures because the two sides looked the same captured in digital bits, but in "real life", I gave a narrow win to the Duragloss product. The Aquawax had better optical clarity to my eyes.
Prices (on Autopia):
DG Aquawax: $0.454 per oz
FK 425: $0.516 per oz
Duragloss for the win so far. Since I use use both products only on a clean or just-washed car, I'll be sticking with Aquawax when my 425 runs out. Another advantage is that it's available locally, so no shipping, which seals the deal.
I'll test beading again in a day or two.
