im about to begin work on a new black benz, it has holograms from teh dealership detail.

im going to be using a UDM

i have in my aresenal: scratchx, 3m perfect it II for dark colors, meguiars fine cut cleaner, meguiars show car polish, and jeffs werkstatt prime.

what should i be using to get rid of the holograms and return the car to a pristine condition?

I'll also be doing a 2003 black vw golf that has a nice serving of swirls. what should i use to tackle that?

thanks.

I don't know if they make this anymore, but 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound (with a cutting or polishing pad, you need to decide) will eliminate those holograms with ease. You may get lucky and get no haze from it. If you do, no problem, you can finish up with

3M Machine Glaze.

The Machine Glaze (05937) is getting hard to find, but yeah, they still make the PI-II Fine Cut Rubbing Compound and it works well (don't breath the silica-based dust though!).

kchau- Make sure your Meg's #2 Fine Cut is the new, PC-friendly stuff, not the old rotary-only version. That's very important.

The Meg's #7 Show Car Polish is nonabrasive and the 3M PI/Dark is almost nonabrasive too. Both conceal but don't correct.

Get something fairly aggressive that'll work by PC (the 3M PI-II FCRC, the new Meg's #2, H-T Extreme Cut). Follow with something milder like Meg's #80.

If the Benz has ceramiclear I'd get Menzerna polishes made for that paint. Those would work well on the VW too.

hrm im not sure what kind of paint the benz has.

i might visit the big napa warehouse today, they have alot of the meguiars profesisonal line.

can you tell me what # of the meguiars products i should get?

Ok, the meguiars #2 that i have is the professional fine cut cleaner, with a 5 on the cutting level, it shows a buy with a machine buffing a car on the front.

on the back, it says the method application is by hand, orbital, DA polisher, or rotary buffer.

is this the new one?

edit: can you guys reccomend what products i should buy, and would be availble at napa. and then let me know what to use for what? thanks.

Quick response, getting ready to leave town:

The #2 oughta be OK then, that's the new one. Follow with #80.

No idea about NAPA.
